  3. Re:But isn't this exact case already exempted? on ACLU Files New DMCA Challenge · · Score: 1

    From the article:

In October 2000, the Library of Congress ruled that "the case has been made for an exemption for compilations consisting of lists of websites blocked by filtering software applications."

But that exemption explicitly does not permit a researcher to write and distribute software that decodes the encrypted blacklists. Because Edelman wants to do just that, the ACLU argues, the Library of Congress' decision is insufficient.

(insert worn-out joke about slashdot readers not reading the article here)

I think if we were really honest with ourselves, we would rate Linux at around the same score (perhaps C+). It is good to see our main competitor admit that we are on a level playing field :)

No, I would give Linux the worst grade imaginable: An A... minus.... minus!

Not invented by the big three, hyped and failed.

According to this document, WAP was created by the WAP forum, which originally consisted of Phone.com, Nokia, Ericsson and Motorola. So it _was_ invented by the big three. (plus Phone.com)

Just get rid of the goddamn thing. I tossed my TV last december, and I don't miss it much. Actually I don't miss it at all, as I'm having much more fun now than before. More time to read, more time to use my computer, more time outdoors, more time spent with friends... :-)

Yeah, but Oracle has changed. Just take a look at the article:

"When asked if the new and cheaper solution would be offered to the State of California as an alternative to its outstanding, yet controversial, $95 contract, Ellison said the state of course has the option. Oracle has said repeatedly that it is willing to renegotiate the deal. "

They're even willing to renegotiate $95 deals. Oh wait...

You could use ammonium nitrate, which is used in ice packs (for chilling bruises etc.).
Just imagine having an ice-cold can of [insert favourite cold beverage] on the beach... Yum. :)
I wonder if you'd be able to keep the price low enough to make it viable.

    >There must be a better way to make ourselves >truly heard. There is. Problem is, people aren't willing to do it. If consumers were organised, _they_ would have all the power, not the Corporations. If every single consumer boycotted the RIAA, they would be out of business. Same goes for almost all of the large Corporations. If a bank loses all of their customers, they're out of business. It is that kind of power that gives leverage. That takes discipline though, and a little sacrifice from every one of us. Not to mention a willingness to support other people, even strangers, perhaps even when you don't agree with their claims. And I guess that makes it impossible, most people don't bother. Not being organised is giving away the power. I guess the poeple that founded the Labour Unions were aware of that fact. They managed to take away some of the power from employers, and give it to the employees. That principle could be applied to the supplier/consumer relationship.
