Please forgive me if this has been posted already - but it's late (up almost 18 hours already - too tired to read all the threads), but anyone try upgrading the XP partition on a Mac Book or any other Intel-based Mac? if so, any gotchas you'd like to share? I rarely use the XP partition, but thought it'd make a good test bed. Off to dreamland - good night all./ers.
Howard Stern fan are ya? I used to listen to HS on free radio in NYC, but haven't popped for a Sirius or XM receiver just yet.
Why haven't more of my fans followed me to Sirius, asks Howard Stern recently?
Maybe it's because I have a great FM radio in my geeky Prius, with a six CD-Changer that also plays MP3's, WMA, etc. I have way more than enough stuff to listen to in the car during my commute, and (are you listening, Sirius and XM?), it's FREE.
I'm sure the free vs pay controversy has been done to death here at/., but I still resent paying for content that was formerly free.
When they start charging for air, I'm outta here! gasp!!!
Took a quick peek at the site - what's up with the homeland security "Elevated Threat" level with the yellow color? Can it be that Al Quaida is behind Malware/Spyware as well?
Dude! Same here! The first Pentium machine I bought was a used PB Platinum 166. It ran and ran - I finally donated it to a school where I used to work. I know they had a horrible reputation, but this thing would not die.
Ditto here. I work in tech support, and was called to a desktop by a someone who said the spreadsheet on the network was "loading slowly." It took almost 8 minutes to fully open. Hmmm....says I, maybe a slow network connection? No - everthing else opens up reasonably quick from the server.
Turns out the spreadsheet is about 40 megs, and contains (well, I forget how many rows exactly it contained) macros, tons of tabs, special formatting with BMP's embedded in the spreadsheet, and God knows what else. I mentioned that once a spreadsheet gets this large, it is always better to use Oracle, or at least Access, to address reponsiveness, as well as making the spreadsheet a tad more ready for use in a networked environment.
He shrugged and said - "we've been using this for years, and I don't think they're going to change."
