Feynman had a bit of an obsession with a small Asian nation called Tannu Tuva. He badly wanted to visit, and at the time Tannu Tuva was part of the USSR. As part of an arrangement with the USSR government, he would be allowed passage to travel there, but in exchange he would have to give some lectures in Moscow, I think.
This is why I left public schools to attend a private Catholic prep school. Those average kids in public schools were holding me back, and I was seriously not challenged enough in public schools. Plus, the public schools were cutting back on gifted and talented programs and honors programs. I would have been fine taking a few classes with the average students, but there is no way putting students of all abilities in to one math class, for example, would have helped anybody.
The only drawback to going to a smaller private school was that the private school could not offer the same variety of AP/IB courses that a larger public school could offer. On the other hand, my teachers were extremely good- I don't know anyone else who had three high school teachers with PhD's.
It doesn't take much ambition to teach English and find an asian wife. Not to say it isn't a pleasant lifestyle. Where is your friend so I can tell him?:p
While teaching English is a fun way to meet people, it's not a serious career choice for well educated, technical people. The time I got suckered into going to an English corner at an all girls school in Beijing was not bad, though.
I consider it a minor victory that The Alamo depicted Davy Crockett as captured and executed by the Mexicans, which is what historical records indicate happened.
I remember the days when Ain't It Cool news stuff showed up on/. regularly- don't miss it at all.
It's true: you and most of the people here have no idea what you are talking about. Plus, you offer a false choice of being able to choose between working in China and working in Silicon Valley- this defies logic and adds no weight to your argument.
Recreating all this low level software that drives hardware is completely non-trivial when you have no documentation. Expect much frustration if you decide to waste away your life going this route.
I do not see a way to make the voltage source AC. This looks pretty good for quickie proof of concept stuff. Still a way to go before it is ready for a serious project.
For now, I use LTSpice. Fabulous, free spice package from Linear.
Tired of hearing this. What are the Chinese going to do, sell their US debt? Then they will put their money where? How much will Chinese currency suddenly appreciate?
E-ink is not actually ink at all. It is a marketing term for bi-stable liquid crystal. So, no, you aren't going to magically print e-ink on anything and have a display.
Every time I read a story like this about performance metrics at IBM, whether it be git commits/KLOCs written/whatever, I have to wonder what kinds of practices engineers there develop. Does engineering quality suffer as a result of gaming the metrics? Are really good engineers helped in their professional development by these metrics, or are they hampered? Are they driven away? Personally, this kind of environment sounds dreadful, but I'm curious what IBMers would have to say about it.
I assume you are referring to online-only institutions, but highly rated schools have online engineering programs, too.
In many cases, there is no way to know if the degree was obtained online or not. For example, if you get a MS Electrical Engineering from Stanford by taking classes online, the degree says "Stanford", not "Stanford online" or somesuch.
I'm a software/electrical engineer with a PE, and I took the PE exam for computer engineering. I had the same problem as you, but I was able to find three PE references. Surely you can find three references.
In Texas, and probably in other states, you can have one reference who is not familiar with your work but can attest to your character. Plus, if people you want to use as references are not familiar with your work, take the opportunity to meet with them a few times a month for a few months to talk about what you are working on before you need them to write the reference.
I've seen Henan province firsthand, and this is absolutely true.
The rural Chinese are severely disenfranchised and have little opportunity for education and health care. A factory moving to their town would be a godsend.
I gotta say, putting a lot of code in the interrupt handler for a microcontroller/digital signal controller/dsp is a huge fail. That seems like something firmware engineers with an undergrad EE degree and a bit of experience should know. Even a software engineer with no low level hardware knowledge probably could have read in the DSP's programming guide that the ISR's execution would block the ISR from being triggered again.

Nova has a wonderful documentary about this, and it can be watched in its entirety on youtube.

This is the purpose of peer review. Important findings will be verified.
Ok, let's go there.
If you sell the stock less than 12 months after exercising the stock option, you pay regular income taxes.
If you sell the stock 12 months after exercising the option, you pay 15%.

Capital gains tax is 15%. Thus all the controversy with Warren Buffet/Mitt Romney/et al paying a lower tax rate than their secretaries.
The voice in your head told you it would be funny, eh?
If your hobby is 'waiting for stuff to happen', then this is a great project to undertake.

If you have never been to China, you have absolutely nothing to add to the conversation.
"Woo" is not proper pin yin (chinese romanization), so it would be spelled "Wu" in other circumstances. Clearly a Puppeteer agent. ;)

Because China has a very conservative investment strategy. US debt is still the safest investment available.

Apparently Taco had some modicum of "integrity" and left knowing this was coming.

Oh yeah, former TI dsp apps engineer here.
