If these guys store electricity at night, the peak period will shift to the night.
After all, it doesn't matter if you are using your blender or charging batteries, for the power company, you are using the energy!!!
I can imagine the dialog between a candidate and the future employer:
"Yes, I think you are just perfect for the job. Now, all you have to do is fill those forms, get chipped, and..."
"Whoooa! Isn't it illegal? You cannot force me to that!"
"You are right but I am not forcing you to take the job either!"
The guy takes then the second best, which in turn will accept the chip promptly...
I got stung by the buzzword bee
And what a feeling got over me
AJAX in to my eyes
WebOS into my head
'2.0 to my heart
Till I was brain-dead
I'm done! uh-hu
I got stung!!
I pray The Lord everyday to please keep me from this malignous insect!!
I wonder what is the intersection of these two groups.
Intellectually curious vs Functional Illiterates
For those who don't know, functional illiterates are those guys that can read, write, do math, but don't know how to use this on a day-by-day basis.
NO! They are not dyslexic...Here is an example: "Joe, what that sign says" "It says 'Don't step on the grass'" "Why is that?" "Humm... don't know, someone put the sign there"
They cannot think on the situation and conclude that if thousands of people step on that patch of grass would make it die soon. They just read and speak, and, not very often, obbey...
Another example: "What is the name of that book there?" "Hmmm... Computer Networks" "What is it about?" "Dunno... never read that"
Shockingly, these people make a significant part of the population.
Somewhere in the past century, people tried to implement quadraphonics audio on the tape-decks and turntables... I remember seeing only one wacko that bought a quadraphonic reel tape, and he had only one tape recorded that way.
I would be hypocritical if I said I don't see advantages on Surround Sound. I have my 5.1 home teather system, and listen to live music shows DVDs almost every week.
However, when it comes to get home and listen to some music while taking a shower, eating dinner, or even just sitting down and relaxing, nothing beats my stereo! A lot less paraphernalia to turn on!!
Apple wants AAC, Micro$oft wants WMA, Sony wants ATRAC... Everyone wants their own format to live, maybe because of royalties, or maybe just to take others away from the marketing. The fact is: most bad MP3 are actually caused by bad ripping.
People don't know (or just forget) that all those parameters you have while encoding are somewhat critical. It's not only a matter of setting it to the highest bit-rate you can, but checking the bandwidth and audio itself to avoid aliasing, sound damping, etc. MP3 files I encode for listening on my car stereo are undistinguishable from the ones on the original CDs.
I think I will create the RGC format and get rich, by saying MP3, Ogg, AAC and WMA sucks!
No we aren't. Hydrogen works as a catalyst on burning the oil. It only improves the oil burning, that is in no way 100% efficient.
Hydrogen will not make the burning 100% efficient either, but ANY improvement to the efficience is welcome, as it is reflected in less emissions and more power or milage...
2) Lower voltage means bigger current for the same power. This would require thicker, more expensive cables
3) DC-DC voltage conversion is, somewhat less efficient... Ok, I know switching mode power supplies are efficient, but this leads me to the last point:
4) No insulation between systems. That way, systems get more prone to ground loops...
C'mon guys... If you do an exercise on the cost analysis there is no way on doing this 100 dollars laptop. I tried it myself, using the mfg suggested prices for 10k units, on processors, drives, memory, and not counting the display, it led me to US$80.00
Now, show me a VGA capable LCD or TFT display that costs under US$20.00 and I will believe it!
Man... I don't mean to worry you, but mine got these same circles, since day 1.
Everytime I went to Rio de Janeiro (a humid place) my camera showed these circles. I though they were flash bounces, but analyzing the places I never could find the reflection source...
Sony used to be a great brand in the early 90's...
Now, I have to agree with you. Digital cameras are getting this black image problem, PS2 get so hot it stops working.
All of this reminds me of the first Sony microsystem I saw, back in 1988... Very sleek, but useless here in Brazil. It would enter thermal shutdown so often, that people would mod it to add a cooling fan on the back... Sad, but true.
BTW, my DSC-P51 retired 2 months ago. Since I bought it on the "gray" market, I am doomed. Sony Brazil asked me around US$300,00 to fix it...

It was automatic!! I was even thinking on how to make a parody of that!!
Sorry, English is not my native language...

Er... Looks like mirrordot is also Slashdotted...
Maybe we should use "mirror-mirror-dot"?
Is Internet, and most specifically Wikipedia, becoming more like
Anyway, I believe "Mostly Harmless" is in both entries for Earth...
I can imagine in a near future seeing on my inbox: "3N1ARG3 4ND M4K3 ITGL0W"
... are Linux guys trying to beat NetBSD and run on the kitchen sink?
Don't want to be a nagger, but I told you so!!
If you use outdated things, it might be closely possible, but that would restrict (a lot) what you can do with the laptop.
