I'm pretty sure the PS3 is 1080p/60 as some of the 3rd party developers have mentioned running demos locked at 60fps in 1080p. I also have not heard anything concerning the framerates for the Xbox360 at 1080p.
While I agree to this in part, the main reason institutions go with Blackboard (or WebCT) is because the Open Source alternatives aren't up to par with features and, in most cases, don't have any contracted support that an institution can rely on. Sakai, for example, is also still an unfinished product. Who in their right mind would risk all of their online and distant learning to a system that isn't finished and lacks the level of support of a commercial product?
We've been using WebCT since '98 and continue to monitor Sakai's and Angel's progress because both products are something we are interested in, even if it's only to be used at the bargaining table with the new owner of WebCT, Blackboard.
It's well known that Blackboard has received contributions from M$ and has been the only reason they were profitable. So, Bb buys out WebCT and now they are going to start sueing the other LMSs. For those that don't know, WebCT created WebCT Vista and the Vista product name is being changed.
This has gone beyond being a mere coincidence.
Wouldn't an MMO based on Starcraft be titled 'Galaxy of Starcraft' or something similar? 'World of' doesn't even begin to touch the scope of Starcraft.
No, it's directly in response to Microsoft wanting to name their new OS Vista. Microsoft's been in alliance with Blackboard since 2001 *hint hint*.
The OS alternatives have nothing to do with this because they don't even compare at this point in time. Moodle's developer community may be "phenomenal" but developers are not support and developers are not QA. The last thing on a University's mind should be jumping on board an OS alternative that has no support past what their adminstrators can google.
Iaughter pretty much hit the nail on the head. Everyone here is trashing these systems but they haven't seen it and the OSS options in action from an administrative standpoint. I administer Vista for a University with 40k+ students, no open source CMS option has the desired features, support, QA or ability to scale for that size of an institution. Of course, an open source system is something we would like to move to or at least be able to use at the bargaining table but right now it's not even possible to use them as a bluff because they simply do not compare.
FYI, you are slightly misguided in your anger. It is not WebCT that is sticking it to the students it is the publisher of the book - WebCT has nothing to do with the material that is used with the system. Text book publishers will "partner" with WebCT to integrate their material with the system and that is how they keep their book selling, by forcing students each year/semester to get new books. WebCT simply gives them a way around students buying used instead of new.
Does this make Yves - *holds pinky to lip* - "Sleepless in Seattle" ?

Technically, it was the harddrive that cost $100. You were buying the harddrive and getting the game pre-installed as a "bonus".

YA RLY!
If that tactic failed, they would have moved on to to the next phase - use influence on "3rd party" company to have said company buy him out.

Microsoft and Blackboard created an "alliance" back in 2001 and now Microsoft is naming their new OS Vista, the name that WebCT's more recent CMS goes by.
Where do we draw the line on what is a coincidence and what is Microsoft tossing out chump change to protect their choice of name for the new OS?
