  1. I have Two TCL ROKU Enabled Smart Tvs and I rather like them. It has only been two years but I essentially get the roku interface which I would have used anyway at no additional charge. Now admittedly Roku could go out of business or maybe there will be a media player that I like better than the Roku, but it has four hdmi ports that I could plug other devices into so it is futureproofed as much as any dumb tv is.

  2. Re:Citizen Murdoch IS much worse. Try Disney or Vi on Yahoo Seeking Partnership With News Corp. · · Score: 1

I agree. They are both bad choices and I would wish for an independent Yahoo over any combination. News corporation tries to stiffle thought with their deliberately dumbed down Infotainment masquerading as News, while MS tries to stifle innovation that would compete with their windows monopoly. In retrospect, I think the MS is the lesser of the two evils here since Gates is mostly greed motivated and not power or control oriented like Murdoch. Gates does not care what you think as long as you run windows, while Murdoch is potentially more sinister. Unfortunately, the number of White knights who can come up with $50B is pretty small. GE has MSNBC linkage. How about Disney with its ABC News franchise. Or Vivendi which would bring Canal Plus, and Universal studios into the mix. Has anyone talked to Vivendi?

there are other ways to create pdf files if buying a full version of acrobat writer is out of you price range. OpenOffice allows you to create a pdf from its writer word processing suite and its calc spreadsheet program. A freeware program for windows called primopdf exists www.primopdf.com that allows you to create a pdf from any application.

  4. Re:Madriva's old news on Mandriva 2007 RC1 Released · · Score: 1

You are living in the past. I run both mandriva 2007 beta 3 and Ubuntu 6.06 and mandriva does many thing much better than Ubuntu. I recently added a disk drive to the Ubunutu rig and two to the Mandriva rig. The ubuntu disk wizard is very primitive compared to mandriva's tools and required me to manually edit /etc/fstab to add the drive. No big deal, but for a newbie that can be daunting. Mandriva's Wizard allow me to set up a RAID 1 configuration with just a few mouse click and automatically installed the mdadm package for me. It was a big difference.

Mandriva One, their one cd install solution is still a good choice for newbies and I would recommend it just as highly I a would recommend Ubuntu.
