Something interesting about allergies is that the tendency to develop allergies is inherited, but which allergies they develop don't appear to be inherited.
I just did a research paper on the subject recently (within the last yeaar). If you can find it, here's a reference to an article about it: "Allergy Myths: Cleaning the Air." Saturday Evening Post 271.4 (1999): 26-28. EBSCOHost. Online. 13 Oct. 2005.
This really still could pose a threat to people running office under wine. All of your saved passwords for websites are stored in your home directory somewhere abouts, and your home directory in fake windows is mapped as Y:\ If somebody wrote an exploit for that, they could access personal data, and erase your files, but that would probably be on average the extent of how far the damage would go.
I think their is a whole lot of bias going on here towards microsoft. Everybodies first reaction when they find out that WINE has the WMF flaw is to:
1. Bash Microsoft, calling them the author of all "buggy" and "flawed"
2. Praise wine for failing where microsoft failed by calling wine "closer to windows"
3. Bash Microsoft some more
4. Worship linux, the all-mighty bug-free security-flawless operating system.
I'm failing to see some real rational thinking going on here.
Linux isn't perfect either. I believe no OS is. Probably because it's made by people, and people make mistakes. Give windows a break. They have a big load to carry. A lot of the things they do are great. Granted they may do some that don't seem so great, but they are in the biggest spotlite. All the guns are pointed at windows users because they are the majority. They undergo the most fire.
Parts of my linux distro break from time to time because of upgrades. Luckily linux provides me also with the tools to fix it myself.
I'm not saying which OS is better, but windows XP definitely isn't a piece of crap. Its really great and has its place. It has some great components - the device manager is great. Its much easier to install a printer in windows than in linux. A lot of things are easier to do. Its great for people who really don't care about what's going in their computer, but just want it to work. There's really no need to flame about it or get upset. Just let it be.
Face it, folks. Linux is an awesome operating system which can do many things that windows can, but doesn't have inhibiting copy-protection and is open source. Anyone can make modifications to it if they want. Its also free. Its been developed by a community of developers around the world.
I say, fluff on. Linux deserves all the attention it can get. Overall, it makes the world a better place for the consumer by putting a little heat on the commercial competition.
you can run microsoft office under linux - there's a tool called crossover office from codeweavers.org. You have to pay $40 for it, but it works really great!
You could also try and set up wine (crossover office is built on wine), but I couldn't figure it out... so I just paid for crossover office.

I don't think that microsoft updates windows 98 and before anymore

hmm.. that is some weird wild stuff
what? lost the concept of left? that's rediculous. Even if you eat the left half of a cake, there still is a left half of what remains.
i love my konqi

hmm, i've never heard that. I don't believe so... can you show some evidence?
