    It's likely that 50 years ago (during the cold war) there weren't many Soviet admirals walzting around the Nautilus. So we can assume he was doing this to fellow officers only.

    Only because other companies offer tools/services to compete with apple (likely against the ipod license agreement) due to the company's high costs.

    What happens when it costs more to staff a repair group for older Ipods than the repair money brings in? Apple will discontinue support for replacing older batteries, which is pretty far from "readily available"

    We can't do anything to the environment. This whole thing is about "save the people", not "save the environment."

    The earth evolved from a "great molten mass" to the veritable paradise that existed before man came on the scene. It can take anything we throw at it, short of perhaps blasting the planet apart from the inside.

    The way I figure it, you can always put more clothes on/build more shelter if it gets cold. Harder to get more cool than "naked", though.

    You state that "people only respond to the cost of something" but argue that it should be done regardless of what the people want. That kind of goes against the spirit of a democratic society.

    And you should probably be careful with that "anything" qualifier. Mass genocide would really cut into carbon emissions solely by reducing the number of people who could cause carbon to be emitted.

    My power supplies don't smoke (stop working), the ball bearings just get bad and they start making a grinding sound when I first boot that takes longer to go away the more I put off replacing. My latest system is a dell (instead of from the chinese guys up the corner), so hopefully I won't have this problem again :)

    Yes, I noticed the warmth aspect now that I have two machines :)

    However, I find the random clicks of a hard drive spinning too distracting to fall asleep with. They're much louder with the fan (I have no problem falling asleep to a constant sound).

    I don't think I've ever had a HD failure because of that (I think the one that was smoked was probably a design flaw), but I replace power supplies on a fairly regular basis (at least once per computer, sometimes twice). For me, saving the wear and tear on that takes priority.

    I don't get the new cult of never turning your PC off. If I'm away from my computer, it's usually for an extended period (IE - a night I'm not downloading crap, or a full day of work). Doesn't it make vastly more sense to not have the power supply fan running for those 8 hours? Or the HD randomly going idle and then spinning up again? When I'm done, I shut the machine down and turn off the power strip. Interested in why others don't, however.

    Problem: Even if you accidentally stumbled upon it, it is now in your cache. That means you are also guilty of the crime.

    Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences.

    Actually, that's exactly what it means. This arguement is retarded. If you can be imprisoned for doing something, you are not free to do it. Hey, blacks were free to vote in the early 20th century too! They just had to watch out for those "consequences" at the end of a tree branch!

    According to the other posters here, it seems Canada does not have freedom of speech.

    Given that there exists such a thing as unlawful speech, you'd be hardpressed to find objections to blocking it

    I think that expecting people to have moral opinions because of what the law is is amazingly strange.

    Being insured is a state of the driver, not the vehicle.

    And siezure laws are worded very carefully because of that. You aren't guilty of not registering, the car is. And since it has no due process rights... yoink!
