I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here... it seems so obvious to me. The first hit for her name + city on google talks about her depression! Not just the page itself, in the goddamn description meta tag (as of yesterday, that could be different today because of the story)! It seems to me that border agents may just be Googling people when they want to.
Based on title alone, I have to say that whatever Neckbeard Linux Zealot Hippy wrote/submitted/approved this story should be shot with a ball of his own shit.
I believe part of the reason Apple is forced to have "restrictive" development requirements and stringent rules about apps is because they NEED the user experience to be consistently top-notch. Look at all the hate directed at something like Windows by the uninformed.. if an app sucks on Windows, people tend to blame Windows.
If Apple allowed for free selection of tools and languages and did not control delivery of apps then it would be much more difficult for them to provide the proper infrastructure that allows MOST apps to feel like a real Apple experience.
I had a quick look at this and other articles and the TPL website and found no mention of how they arrived at this decision.
Did they ask young people what they wanted? Formally? Informally?
Is my bandwidth shared with a horde of 9-year-olds playing the latest Britney video
(or their dads, playing certain other videos)? s/certain other/the same/
uh. are you kidding?
have a look at the number of players logged in to those servers. 53, 34, 12...
I'd rather play neverwinter nights than play WoW with 12 people on the entire server.
I bet you played The Sims using the $100,000 cheat code too:/
I'm not saying the snobbery doesn't exist, it certainly does, however the following document can be really useful when trying to get beyond it and get your question answered.

this is not a SMALL design mistake.. this is a HUGE GLARING ERROR. perhaps you thinking "they made a small design mistake" explains why you worked in the marketing department.
If the vast majority of the tech side is "very impressive" then this mistake wouldn't have been made, the structure and design of these systems should have been done in a team environment, and someone with experience should have flagged this in the very beginning.
there is, of course, a place for fresh grads, but it should be working along side seasoned professionals. Also, I don't think that age is a factor: 43 or 23, if you have 4 years of university under your belt, you're on your way to a good career, but you likely do not have the knowledge and know-how to replace someone with years of work "in the field"
this type of bonehead mistake is a perfect example of what happens when you use RIM's hiring policies..
it is my understanding that they actively recruit and employ people straight from the comp sci departments at nearby universities. I've seen job postings from them over the years, and have always been irked by their education requirements (none of which I meet, of course)
when I know they are hiring newbs from U of W that don't know their ass from a hole in the ground, this sort of thing is not a surprise to me!

... until they let me mail in my gas and parking receipt and get reimbursed for the trip to the b&m.
