From what I've seen ipod touch / iphone graphics are on par if not better than psp. 100 buck optional snap on for instant PSP, those who like buttons will devour, those who don't can stay away, Apple wins (and it would be such a tiny outlay that even if it failed to gain traction they wouldn't even notice the money burned, none of the tech is new, how much is a bit of ergonomic design).

I know I would pay a hundred bucks for a good quality droid version, in fact I donated via kickstarter to this guy's project game-gripper, but it couldn't get across the line. I would pay a hundred bucks even if it only worked with emulators lol (entire SNES, MAME and neogeo catalog on my phone with real buttons? sign me up)/

In Australia we can get 10Gb prepaid (no contracts) on the best network (Telstra to be precise) with 12 month expiry for 150 bucks, one off, you're good for a year. For a tech geek like me, 15 bucks a month for a gig, always reception, always >1mb speeds even in the boonies, is perfect for reading websites/newspapers at the cafe during lunch, waiting for the train, etc. And in winter or in suit wearing occasions its just fantastic having a 7" internet portal in your coat pocket.

Sure I could tether via my droid but its extra fumbling around (on trains or trams its actually a hassle), you gotta remember to turn hotspot off afterwards, battery drain (BIG downside since all these smartphones are bad enough as it is with battery life), etc. etc.

15 bucks a month is fine for me and my financial profile. For you that figure seems to be five bucks, which in a year or two may not sound so ridiculous (we can only hope). For 40 bucks sure thats outrageous but a one off, $150 payment and your'e good for 12 months, that is great for me

    You're missing the bigger picture.

Imagine a top of the line HTC tablet with a slide out joypad or included BT joypad, hardware optimised / accelerated stream decoding etc. that 'plug and play's anything from onlive. Sure you've still got game interface issues but as the portable gaming market grows more and more games will be designed with portables in mind, even AAA titles eventually. OK so 3G or 4G streaming online still sounds like scifi (that extra 100+ms latency.... oooooh) but could work very well with wifi. How about a Motorola atrix style dock next to your TV? Suddenly you have a tablet that doubles as an portable onlive machine that can dock into your HDTV for a full onlive experience, or you can take it round to your mates place.

Without knowing HTC's balance sheet and cashflow don't know if 40 million is a big number for them but this could be far from a niche within a niche.
