Where, oh where is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation?!? If they were really innovative, they would have already announced the OWLPC* program by now. Of course, this would have to be followed up with the OAASRSLPC** program.
*OWLPC: One Windows License Per Child
**OAASRSLPC: One Anti-virus, Adware-removal, Spybot-removal, Rootkit-removal Software License Per Child
actually, the MPAA has something in the works that will encrypt the data link between your eyeballs and your brain. anything that you look at that is not legit will be blocked.
I read an article about a year ago that speculated that in the long-run the iPod will become low margin and the iTMS will become the big money-maker for Apple. If this is the case, then I see Apple becoming a service provider like Virgin Mobile and selling an "iPhone" at a loss so that they can earn revenues selling music and videos wirelessly.
While iTunes is great in the short-run for creating a mass market for music and movie downloads, I think it will become obsolete in the long-run as services like Google Video https://upload.video.google.com/ take hold.
Ultimately, proprietary "walled gardens" never survive in the long-run. Just look at AOL.

I, for one, welcome our comma-separated Overlords...

"Neutrinos exist. God doesn't." - is that a belief, or a hypothesis :-)
a belief is not the same thing as a hypothesis
