I thought all digital information is defined as intellectual property. Unless the guy actually took pictures of the kids he didn't create anything origional, he just re-produced previous IP. According to this definition, to avoid being charged by the RIAA all you would have to do is burn your downloaded MP3s to a CD and claimed you created the music using this ruling as a precedent. How could you be stealing music if you made it? The judge wanted to nail this guy, and I bet you someone is going to use it as a loop-hole.
If they really wanted to make this easier for the customer they would just ask for your address right at the cash register and automate the entire rebate process.... or just discount the rebate right there on the spot. But we all know the lazy ass people in this country won't even bother to go on a website and fill out their info for a check in the mail. The entire rebate system depends on the laziness of people.
I guess they realized they made a mistake. Now hopefully we can elect new government leaders that don't make decisions out of fear.. then again I am a wishful thinker.
saddly.. after I type up a paper in OpenOffice I open it in word because it misses a lot of errors like extra spaces between words (I should know better). Anyhow.. I downloaded the source just because I was interested and the thing is huge and hard to follow.. the entire code needs to be re-designed IMO Then again.. I've never worked on a large project like that.. so what do I know
I'm thinking... combine this with a nano-itx board - large HD and you got yourself a nice little server.. possibly even putting the parts into a hollowed out PS1
I used floppies to image PCs at a elem. school I used to worked for. The majority of the machines were older and couldn't boot of a thumb drive... and not all of them had CDROM drives.. and many of them didn't work:)

I switched from storing my files on a windows server to a linux server.. this sort of stuff happens all the time.. not that big of deal
they'll release their genetic code under the GPL, I'd really hate it if went all commercial.

Now these mice will set traps for humans!
NIC card
source code released by the government would probably have a lot of black lines though it.
