    The data exchange standard that is used for medical device integration is called HL7.

    have you worked with Cerner or Epic? both systems allow health care systems to achieve HIMSS level 7 fairly quickly with very little effort.

    BTW... the VA just signed a contract to deploy Epic as their EHR.

    Epic and Cerner are the two EHRs that are getting deployed by most health systems in the US...There is already a working exchange on a common data request (not HL7's joke of a data interface) that both of those systems support.

    right now there is a huge rush to get EHRs up and running to meet meaningful use. Epic has one of the better EHRs. One of the best features in the patient portal. Super easy to setup and super easy for your patients to grab their data and monitor their test results.

    the only thing that prevents perl/python/ruby from being used in client side web programming is the browser makers including the interpreter in their browsers. Since we are talking about what would be nice I decided to mention how much better those languages are than Javascript and Java for client side web programming.

    I upgraded my WHS 2011 to Windows 8 because of drive spaces...it is working great... I just had to run a few commands on my server and clients to keep the mapped drives from disconnecting.

    Why do you need a UEFI system to run windows 8? I am running it fine on a 5 year old quad core BIOS machine.

    I love Windows 8....The improvements in the system make it worth it....people get too caught up on Metro. That is a small part of the OS and is simply another way of interacting with your applications.

    what is the price difference?

    Beyond that... I think the Surface Pro type devices will win the day only because intel is moving to a super efficient design and you might as well get a full windows experience if you can....but again....only if the prices are close.

    The internet actually made collecting private information more transparent because you know it is happening. pre-internet you had no idea.
