Epic and Cerner are the two EHRs that are getting deployed by most health systems in the US...There is already a working exchange on a common data request (not HL7's joke of a data interface) that both of those systems support.
right now there is a huge rush to get EHRs up and running to meet meaningful use. Epic has one of the better EHRs. One of the best features in the patient portal. Super easy to setup and super easy for your patients to grab their data and monitor their test results.
the only thing that prevents perl/python/ruby from being used in client side web programming is the browser makers including the interpreter in their browsers. Since we are talking about what would be nice I decided to mention how much better those languages are than Javascript and Java for client side web programming.
I upgraded my WHS 2011 to Windows 8 because of drive spaces...it is working great... I just had to run a few commands on my server and clients to keep the mapped drives from disconnecting.
I love Windows 8....The improvements in the system make it worth it....people get too caught up on Metro. That is a small part of the OS and is simply another way of interacting with your applications.
Beyond that... I think the Surface Pro type devices will win the day only because intel is moving to a super efficient design and you might as well get a full windows experience if you can....but again....only if the prices are close.
FDA only needs to be involved is a small set of use cases.
The data exchange standard that is used for medical device integration is called HL7.
have you worked with Cerner or Epic? both systems allow health care systems to achieve HIMSS level 7 fairly quickly with very little effort.
BTW... the VA just signed a contract to deploy Epic as their EHR.

how much will you lose in medicare reimbursements in 2015 if you do not make your meaningful use deadline?

when are they going to create a secure password generator? Lastpass is great but it would be so much smoother cross device if Chrome handled it all.

Perl, Python, Ruby all superior languages to Javascript with none of the bloat of Java.
Java has been a security hell for the last two years so...no....bad idea.
I don't use the metro apps.
I swear... everyone bitching about Windows 8 reminds me of this
how long did it take you to love XP? SP2 was when it finally became usable.

XP wasn't good when it was released...it was just used so long MS had to fix all it horrible problems.
Why do you need a UEFI system to run windows 8? I am running it fine on a 5 year old quad core BIOS machine.

what is the price difference?

you're a moron. I am running windows 8 pro and have all my old software operating just fine without any Windows store purchases.
New UI that is completely different is a new UI that is completely different.
OMG! you have to remap your knowledge! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
how did Apple ever survive when they did exactly the same thing to their user base 12 years ago?
he is ignoring the parts that he does not want to use and that windows allows him to ignore.....there is a lot more in Win8 than just the metro stuff.
No...super users are just fucking whiny douche bags.
No... it means that the UI is new and for people to get up and running quickly you will want to show them the basics.
with all due respect...you have no idea who has your personal data collected through means outside the internet.
The internet actually made collecting private information more transparent because you know it is happening. pre-internet you had no idea.
