    apparently you don't understand the difference between a technological and non-technological problem.

    They can replace the CA system with something that functions more reliably and SSL would not need to change.

    Related assets being pushed with out request will be a huge deal too...I call up the webpage, I want the webpage, so you might as well give me everything without waiting for me to ask for the next image/javascript block...etc.

    It is a false dichotomy. They are assuming a metal poor star can not form in the current Epoch. I would have said that we discovered that metal poor stars can form in the "modern" universe.

    Seed your backup using a hard drive shipped to them then.

    They can maintain differentials which are orders of magnitude smaller and then if disaster strikes, you can even have them send you a disk with your data on it.

    why does it have to be static?

    1) Off site backup is for disasters, not working files or even a quick recovery backup...that is what local copies are for.
    2) Data does not have to be static for it to be seeded. Crash Plan will send you the size disk you need for your seed. It will deal with Diffs from then on.
    3) if you turn over 2 TBs of data so quickly that you can't even do a Diff backup after a seed because it would be equivalent to a full back up of most or all your data, then you need a more enterprise solution for your work than something like Crash Plan.

    anything that you need absolute privacy for, set up your own encryption before marking it for backup. Not all your data could require paranoid levels of privacy could it?

    1)Set up a server at one of your trusted tin-foil-hat club-for-men fellow members home and use a program that will encrypt and auto back up the data?

    2)Use a safety deposit box and multiple encrypted terabyte drives?

    At some point, if you want your data to be resilient against an event that can wipe out your local copies, you need to put that data out of your site and physical location.

    why would you need to be hunched over? All you need for console style gaming now a days on a PC is an XBox controller and Steam.

    I am moving my kids to Steam based game play. I buy a game for them once and I never have to worry about it again. Platformers are easy to play laying back, and in Windows 8, a TV setup will be super easy to implement with a Metro Games app to browse through.

    Really? so...some lone individual decided to take his 5 kids and go off on his own to start a farm and live a completely different life? A tribe is still a government. a decision made by 250 people to put down roots and start sowing the land for food is still government....it just happens to be tribal.

    You are comparing the invention of written thought to a refinement of mathematics?

    George Bool's interests were into discovering ways to quantify decision making and allow people to evaluate those decision strings. It may have been very abstract and impractical work, but a mathematician(professional or otherwise) finds their work more like art than like engineering.

    At any rate, he had a motivation.

    one nice thing about picasa auto upload is that you don't have to store your picture on your phone to have it with you on your phone. the photo gallery ties into picasa web albums.
