  1. My own patents. on FTC Investigates Submarine Patents · · Score: 0, Offtopic

These cases are very similar to the one I'm currently fighting. You see, I own the patent on the English language. I kept it under my hat while helping to develop it, so I'm in the process of suing anyone and everyone for their unwarranted use of it.

Don't worry /., you've been good to me, so I'm willing to settle out of court with you. :)

Great, now I'm not only vulnerable to repeated port scans from any moron with a TCP/IP connection, but from my local community LAN also. Gives me a real sense of community, though.

This technology might also take file sharing to a whole new level...

And one more good thing - now my friends and I could share the cost of 1 net connection between all of our computers if we live in the same local area. I love it.

  3. It's only a House Bill. on Report On The Texas Censorware Bill · · Score: 1

I'm amazed to see how much knee-jerk reaction /. can get out of posting the contents of a proposed bill from ANY state. Bear in mind, people, that this is a House Bill, and hundreds of House Bills filter through the legislature every year without getting so much as the simplest media attention. Know why? Because they're stupid, and even the legislators know it, but they try it anyway, to see just how they need to refine it to make it pass. This is nothing to worry about, (I'd almost call it a waste of breath), and I can't believe that /. jumped on the bandwagon.

Because I don't see any difference (other than cheap-looking icons) between this new beta and its predecessors.

It doesn't take a Einstein to come up with new graphics or fancy phrasing that might make an OS looks newer.

If you use their products long enough, you'll notice that each new version comes complete with re-arranged [more confusing] menus, new driver bases, and more annoying free crap to sort through and remove from the "out-of-the-box" distribution.

  6. Gambling? on FCC Staff Back AOL-Time Warner Deal · · Score: 1

From an article on the matter:
"Although the draft provides some insight into FCC thinking, the commission could still block the deal if both companies do not make major concessions in order to prevent any illusion of monopolistic practices, the report said.

First of all, I wonder what qualifies as "major concessions". I seem to remember that AT&T has already been in some hot water for not playing nicely with its competitors?

Second, I sure wouldn't want to wager a multi-billion dollar deal on the wishy-washy nature of the FCC or European Union.
