...the only jobs available for them are ones in which they have to work insane amounts of hours with little pay in order to provide Americans with luxury items (such as iPods)?
I'm Asian and I don't like it. But does it matter?
Raising wages, changing work conditions, etc. will most likely increase cost into these multinationals. Making these multinationals cut jobs, hire less, or shut down and look elsewhere.
I believe the forces of supply & demand will dictate the price. This includes labor and jobs.
Society/government should be regulating/protecting their labor. If the current practices is border-line exploitation and brings greater harm in the long run to their country then they should change these practices. But they should always watch the bigger picture (economy) aswell.
My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nine Pies. I use this mnemonic my science teacher taught me everytime I want to recall the nine planets of our system.
Anyways, will this proposal (if it gets accepted) be final? Though I know nothing lasts forever, it would be great to know that if we are to change the model that atleast our definitions and classifiactions are well defined - that further changes would be unlikely since this just seems to be an arbitrary issue.
My Very Eager Mother Can't Just Served Us Nine Pies Come 2003!
This is really great, I might just use my PS3 savings for 360 if Sony won't follow through.
I can just see indie companies coming with great innovative games competing the big publishers driving more innovation or atleast cost down. Them, plus a handful of those angelic-selfless coders contributing to the community with free games.
Even ad-supported games will be more feasible - created by the corporations for promotions, etc.
One problem 360 might face though is when companies would go after Microsoft about widespread copyright infringement brought upon the many spin-offs/rip-offs of games, or even using trademark characters of big publishers games etc..
Like say if I create a game called 'final fantasy 7 - new world' and use ff7 characters etc, and distribute it freely. Will I be facing square-enix lawyers the next day? And if this becomes rampant, will square-enix lawyers go after Microsoft.
Anyways, I think Sony is in trouble.
Yea, I went through the same thing. Made my mistake, and learned.
If my parents controlled me then, it might have avoided me getting fat - then I would have been angry at my parents though I'm sure it'll pass as the time goes. I would also understand their reasons for controlling me so, but then I wouldn't have enjoyed my youth as much. And life goes on.
But my parents never controlled my diet then, they did however constantly reminded me of my increasing weight and cautioned me of the health problems our family has and what it might mean to my adulthood. I got the jizz of it but continued on indulging on junkfood, drinking etc. I got fat and I regretted it - I learned to control myself and am now healthy. And life goes on.
Now I learned self-control from my mistake. If the first scenario happened, I could have learned self-control aswell from other means.
It's up to the parents how they raise their child. If they want to control their child's diet - sure that will work. But if I do become a parent, I'd want to give my child the same kind of trust (I'm sure a controlling parent trusts their child aswell) my parents gave me.
Besides, I'm totally enjoying the freedom my parents are giving me.:D And I have my parents to thank for letting me make my own mistakes and overcome it.
Is it that bad in schools these days that if you let your child choose his own meals he'd end up obese?
If it is then the problem is in the school's menu.
We are teenagers but that doesn't mean we don't watch our health/well being. Everybody wants to look good and presentable, _especially_ in highschool...
Besides, if a kid does ends up on Obese II/III - a real cause of alarm - I doubt it was because of the meals he choose at school. I'd watch out his/her food intake at home.
