It has been said regarding the media

The logic is that people forget what was said about a person/company, but by simply becoming more familiar with the name they will be more likely to support the person/buy products from the company in the future.
In six months when everybody forgets this whole rootkit thing people may actually buy more Sony products just because they have heard the name mentioned so many times.
