I was just about to say the same thing.
The fact that you can't register your full name as a screen name isn't because AIM's database is cluttered (which I'm sure it is, don't get me wrong). It's mostly likely due to the fact that someone else in the world has the same name as you (a hard concept to grasp, I know) and thought that it would be convenient to have their screen name the same as their real name.
Maybe I'm crazy, but I have a hunch that if you were to attempt to register your full name on most major email/instant messanger clients, you'd have to add a few numbers to the end in order to proceed.
