Eh.. Sure.. But that's sevaral decades away atleast.
Capitalism works when there's an enviorment in it to work. That enviorment isnt anywhere close these days, getting into low earth orbit, however cool, and going to the moon and mining isnt comparable on any sensible scale.
And now let's just fast forward twenty years, will traveling to the moon/mars/beyond be so cheap that you can mine minerals there, bring it back to earth and make a profit? Or sell it to someone else that's also in space at that time?
The complexity, risk and thus cost of doing anything in space for private is so high that right now and for the forseable future I don't think you'll see any mining operations by the private sector. It's just too expensive and not worth the risk, better to do like everyone here says Microsoft does it.
Never be first, just embrace and extend as being first is insanely expensive.
So for now, that evil goverment entity is going to have to take the lead. And that's what it's there for, stimulate growth. It's way of doing that however isnt always that good, but that's another discussion;-)
Taking over a company that is in its decline is no fun.
Really?
Leading a company when it's going good is something anyone can do, it takes minimal effort. It's much more of a challenge to lead a company when "the shit has hit the fan" so to speak.
And some people, belive it or not, actually like challenges;-)
How on earth could this parent get modded "insightful"?
Is insightful the new way to say "ignorant"? And what freedom do I lose by paying taxes? I classify "freedom" as my right/privilige to say, feel, and express whatever I want withinn reason.
We clearly must have different opinions of what freedom is.
Taxes doesnt really remove any of those rights from me, but hey, whatever you classify "freedom" as might just make the statement above true. It just doesnt really matter to me, because I'll just live my life and be happy to live where I live. And if for any reason history should judge me as a "sucker that professed freedom" but really just gave it away. So be it, I don't really have this urge to think much of how future generations will think of me and my peers. I'll just do what I think is right, and you can do what you think is right.
So just go around thinking we're giving our freedom away if that makes you sleep well at night;-)
And btw, we're still not one country;-)

Ok, as you may or may not know Europe isnt a country, it isnt even a coalition of states. We have the European Union, but not everyone is in that gang, nor is it that old and hasnt gone to war on anything or anyone (yet). Europe is a region on this blue little planet of ours, kinda like that 'troublesome' region that you may or may not have heard of, called the middle east.
That means that while some countries may have fought wars of expansion and domination during the course of history, it doesnt say we all have. It doesnt make "us" saints. Nor does that fact make you able to take the moral highground in any discussion of the application of military power.
Oh and one last little note, what constitutes "agressive" in your opinion? Since I find your countries attitude to be a tad aggressive at times.
European industry will, as far as I've gathered, have a tad larger/broader access to Galileio as US industry apparently has on the GPS system. Which makes it easier to compete with US industry, a fact that we all should enjoy. "Free" market and so on.
And I really can't understand why it's not allowed to say "we want our own shit", when the US _seems_ far more likely to build it's own "shit" than to depend on others.;-)
Now let's all be friends and get along with our new toys:-)
