The US statute of limitations does not apply to people who flee the country to evade prosecution. That provision is there to stop that exact behaviour.
Worse, what he did in New Zealand was not even illegal in New Zealand.
Think of this as being arrested for doing over 100km/hr on the autobahn in Germany and being sent to New Zealand for a speeding ticket, except this ticket has 20+ years imprisonment attached to it.
If New Zealand extradites Kim Dotcom they should also revoke citizenship for Peter Theil and all the other wealthy overseas people who bought their way into the country.
We can't teach religion in schools, intelligent design failed to bypass that, so lets come up with another explanation of "god" so we can push that on everyone.
That maybe true in the USA, but other countries have more rigorous standards.
Did you note I said "Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Microbiology, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Engineering", you know the hard sciences.
Also, academics are initially put on fixed term contracts here, if they fail to produce result they don't get renewed contracts. Even those who are employed full time can get pushed out the door if they fail to produce results. The results are based on peer reviewed publications (quality of journal matters), how often your papers are referenced by other academics/students, Conference presentations, how much research money you bring in, collaboration peers, etc etc etc etc. Each academic has to produce a full portfolio of these every 3 years.
Well I have run a Parallels VM with Windows 95 that I mangled to get working with a USB to serial adaptor so we could revalidate our Laminar Flow cabinets.
But yes, instruments are the bane of my existence too for compatibility issues.
Last count of Apps we use at our institution, it was 20,000.
Most of our incompatibilities are with instrument controllers. We are trialing one system with a 32 bit version of Win10 with some new software they say should work.
Upgrades are not always easy, they can be locked to a CPU serial number, ethernet MAC address, ID of a hard drives, etc.
No, the PhD that you require to get an academic position in my country proves you are smart, as does the many years of teaching and research you need to do before you can become a professor. That title is only awarded on merit, not on time served or just "doing the work".
Then there are the various research medals, earning a fellowship to the royal society , etc.
If you do not move to the new OS, all you existing Apps will work just fine, there is no "hit"
You do NOT have to move, you do NOT have to upgrade, these choices are 100% the end users. Version 13.4 of OSX will simply be warning you in advance that OSX 14 will no longer support 32 bit Apps. You can then either choose to stay on 13 and get support for another couple of years or move to version 14 and upgrade your Apps.
Apple is not going to kill anyones tools, they will continue to function tomorrow just as they did today.
For example my old iPad still works today even though Apple no longer supplies updates for it. It is stuck at IOS 9.
Bento on it however works fine and is still useful.
As a guess I would say better than 90% of computers ever in existence have never been used to write code.
It may be important to you to be able to write code, but to the majority its irrelevant
However if we want to take a really broad view of programming then I would say Apple does include tools, its called Garage Band. Here using a special notation you can write arbitrary code (notes, length of note, instruments, etc etc) to create unique sources that other people can get, use and modify on their own iPads, and run so that it compiles into an audible output. It is even possible for different people to work on difference portions of that code and combine them into one piece.
Indeed some bands have done exactly this and then made that compiled output available for sale via iTunes.
Because of a lack of musical ability it may not meet most peoples view of programming, but then again writing swift code does not meet most peoples need for a computer.
Huh, I own a 1970s analog computer.
No CPU, No memory, No keyboard or mouse, and yet works well for computing various arbitrary tasks, and completely programable.
All computers are limited in some way.
On the microwave you can program in arbitrary cooking times and power levels for each "job", my one even allows me to put in 99 seconds as a cooking time.
On the Z80 used on CPM based computers you were limited to 64K (unless you did hardware tricks to do memory paging) and there was no multiply or divide instructions on the CPU, you had to create your own code to do it. Likewise floating point calculations were unsupported unless you wrote the code. All things we take for granted now.
Can my word processor do cad-cam designs ?, no. Likewise the count down by twos, that is a built in limitation of the software, if the software was rewritten it it would be possible.
The biggest limitation of most systems is the imagination of the users and programmers.
In the USA, the NSA scans you as does the FBI, CIA, Homeland security, DEA, Immigration service, boarder patrols, and local police.
Don't worry, its all to keep you safe.
Its called using the right tool for the right job.
God what next, you going to say how bad the metric system is because some mechanic uses imperial spanners in Germany to work on old US cars ?
If you tried the "I hate Microsoft/Apple" at my place of work , you'd get fired. No one gives a toss about your personal choices. Its ALWAYS, right tool for the job and that means making the end user the most productive. So if it means Windows, give to them, OSX, Linux you give it to them.
Hell I started with CPM2.2 and have used a LOT of different OS's and computers in between times.
Computers are like golf clubs, you don't give a left handed golfer a set of right handed clubs because thats what you use, even AFTER you tried left handed one and found they suck. And womens clubs are generally a bit shorter as are children clubs, give right tool for the persons needs every time.

There is a way reading this

Its ranks a lot higher than uninformed opinion.
I can introduce you to Professors in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Microbiology, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Engineering, etc all of whom use Macs.
What the hell are you talking about ????

Weird because we have lots of Windows XP, Win7 and Win8 Apps that fail to run under Win10. Just sayin'
No it will feel just the same as those that hate Maths, Gym, Music.
And when they are adults and in the workforce better than 90% of people will never use those skills they were taught ever again.
As a guess I would say better than 90% of computers ever in existence have never been used to write code.

The current IOS devices are far more "powerful" than any 68K and PPC "computers" Apple ever manufactured.
Any registered developer who can load and test their Apps on their iPad can write and install their own compiler on an iPad if they wished to do so.
Its only a limitation if you wish to offer/sell your software through the Applestore.

The PC in our workshop says "HP" and it runs Windows. It too does not say "computer" anywhere . You are even more dumb it seems.
The USA only ranks 43rd in the world for "freedom of the press". Its not like you are the leader of the free world or anything.
What reason would the US government have to lie , apart from the fact they do not control it and can not order back doors installed.
In the USA, the NSA scans you as does the FBI, CIA, Homeland security, DEA, Immigration service, boarder patrols, and local police. Don't worry, its all to keep you safe.
Looking at some people, I don't think they were worn enough.
LOL, I started with CPM2.2, no such thing as multitasking here, nor networking (unless you include sneaker net).
I still have my Kaypro 4, and all these snow flakes complain about how heavy their laptop is today....
During shipment.
Unsolder ROM, solder is new ROM.
There you go, hacked. It is what is rumoured to have been done with Cisco gear heading to countries the US wanted to spy on.
And now that modern CPUs from Intel are running MINIX to run the microcode, you simply no longer know what is happening.
Don't forget appointing judges who have never even tried a case as a lawyer
Its called using the right tool for the right job.

God, how hard is that as a concept ????
