Yes, we all like the idea of getting geeky things like broadband, and NASA projects, schools, colleges. But the root of the issue is that if government spending lead to economic health, we would not be in this mess. Over the past 6 months or so, government spending has managed to more than DOUBLE our national debt.
We are now throwing around the term "Trillion" as if it were a sane thing to do. "Sure, we will spend 1.4 Trillion dollars, and everything will get better." It does not matter how the money is allocated, spending it is a bad idea. All it will do is put us deeper in the hole.
The other problem is that none of the action that the government is taking is actually designed to help the economy, it is designed to help out their buddies. So far, we have given Billions of dollars to banks that have used it to buy other banks, rather than help people. We have given Billions of dollars to corporations, and they use it to pay bonuses, and go on vacation. The solution is not to specify what they can spend the money on. The solution is to NOT spend the money.
And nobody seems to even notice that the government is now purchasing interest in banks, manufacturing, real estate. If this were happening 50 or 70 years ago, it would be seen for what it really is: a government attempt to socialize our country.
We are in an arms race now. We are just unarmed. It is very simple, stop pissing us off. If you do, we will reply in kind in such a fashion that you will not make any money, and you will go out of business.
We should have a National Telemarketer Registry, just like we have for sex offenders. They should have to put signs in front of their houses. And then we should be able to beat them to death.
I was really happy when I heard about the spammer that killed himself. Too bad he got his family too.
OK, everybody hates them. Nobody likes them. Yet they keep saying "we provide a valuable service that people like, and it is not annoying".
Here is the solution. We don't need to outlaw them. We need the law only two require two things:
1. Telemarketers MUST display a proper number for caller ID
2. Telemarketers may NOT block incoming calls
Then we all install auto-dialer programs on our PC's. We record a long, babbling message stating: "Thank you for your recent call. This message is to inform you that we do not wish to receive any automated calls from you, or any of your business partners, or anybody else, ever again. You may consider this our opt-out message. For your convenience, this message will automatically re-dial you every 30 seconds until you opt out of OUR auto dial promotion. You may signify your intention to opt out of our special, valuable auto-dial list by not calling us again for 6 months. Once you have opted out of our program by not calling us for 6 months, your number will be automatically removed from our calling list. Thank you, and have a nice day."
In other words, we would start clogging THEIR phones, and THEY would get pissed off. And the only way to get off of our autodial list is to stop calling us. You stop pissing us off, we will stop pissing you off.
OK, people who read this board are generally geeks. I presume that you are in on the joke. But just to be clear, you DO know that Mojave IS Vista. Right?
Everybody is so horrified of Vista that MS is putting out commercials where they show people this "NEW" operating system called "Mojave". After people say "Wow, this is easy and wonderful. This will make my life a living paradise", they tell them "Mojave is really Vista".
Microsoft is getting feedback from market research that tells them "everybody is avoiding Vista like the plague. In fact, they are downgrading from Vista to XP". As is typical for MS, rather than fix the problem, they spend tons of money to try to convince us that there is no problem, rather than actually fixing the problem.
No disrespect intended to the poster above, but there really are people who have seen the advertisements in magazines, and think that Mojave is a new and wonderful operating system. THEY THINK IT'S REAL! I guess I should not be surprised. During the radio cast of "War of the Worlds", lots of people really did thing the Martians were attacking too. (Although I personally think that Martians attacking the earth is much more likely than MS releasing an OS that does not suck goat.)
Hey, do any of you geeks remember SP2 for Windows NT 3.51??? AHHHHH!!!!!! I still have nightmares about it. When Windows 3.51 was released, there were LOTS of problems with it. MS finally released Service Pack 2 for it. They promised that it would fix all of our problems. We all downloaded it, and promptly destroyed our servers. I am sure you remember that late night working until 3:00am to get everything back up. That was back when we used to trust Microsoft. But now we know better.
They don't actually fix anything. They just try to convince you that it's not broken. "These are not the droids your looking for."
