Well, our DBA pay range tops out at over 6 figures. Our latest posting for a simple systems administrator was giving $65k to start. And we all get 40+ paid days off a year. I thinks that's pretty good. Maybe we should just lower out standards.
I work for a information-based organization in Washington State. We offer excellent pay and sweet-arse benefits IMO. But there are just not enough qualified applicants for the IT positions we have open. We will get lots of resumes, but they seem to fall into one of two categories: -I have an MCSE and 6 month actual work experience -I have a doctorate in computer science but can't manage a network at all (seriously, we had one guy who could not define what DNS was)
From TFA: So anybody who searches for information on such disparate topics as iron supplements, airlines, hotels and soft drinks may see ads for those products and services later on.
What if I search for AdBlocker and NoScript? Will I see ads for those products? Can a Firefox ad-blocking add-on be so awesome that it cannot block ads from itself? Whoa.

I bet it brings all the boys to the house. Damn right, it's better than yours.
How do statisticians account for the 'willing to take a survey' factor? I often wonder that when I hear survey results. In your example, what if the mathematicians thought 'I've already had my nose marked, I don't want to screw around here anymore' and just leave? Like phone polls only include people who don't have caller ID and/or people with copious free time to answer a survey.
So these demographics are based on what? Previous surveys? I guess my question is, who gets to say what the demographics are? Since this isn't exactly Census data we are talking about here...that is to say, no one has come to my house and asked me the ages of my kids and what games they play.
From TFA: "Our survey involved over 1200 kids in two states"
I am not versed in acceptable survey sampling standards, but given the 100's of 1000's (if not millions) of gamer-kids all across the country, this seems small to me. Just an uneducated observation....
Because bows were designed to hunt game and feed people. Like knives, taking human lives was a secondary use. And as for crossbows, they're just guns that shoot bolts instead of bullets.
Not that I want to jump on the gun control bandwagon, or that I want to block P2P transfers, but....
Your comparison of gun and cars is a bit flawed, IMO. Guns were invented to take lives; that is their purpose in the universe. Whereas cars are tools that countless uses and, Death Race 2000 fantasy aside, none of them are to kill people. I don't want to start a flame war here, just something I noticed....
No. There is actually something quantifiably unusual about my signature. Not something subjective, but a trait about it that's very unusual, even unique.
Personally, I prefer spites to either ray-trace or polygons. I still thing Starcraft (the game, not the conversion van) had some of the best graphics. But then I am kind of a fuddy-duddy. I also think River Raid was an awesome game.
...and Eee & an XO. I would have to agree that the Eee is a better system in general, but the screen is small. My 13 y/o daughter uses it with an external monitor when she is at her desk. My 7 y/o son has the XO and likes it a lot, however he complains that he cannot print anything (CUPS printing is not integrated in the interface). One thing I really like about the XO is the ease of adding new applications. Getting new apps to appear in the Eee's 'easy mode' is a headache at best. But the included suite is hard to beat. The touchpad on the XO is useless as its' sensitivity seems to be set way too high. But it found my wireless USB mouse without a problem. I think both systems are well suited to their respective target audiences.
Well, a quick Google search for 'bounty hunter kills wrong person' yielded this one and this one. The 'getting community service' statement I made was just hyperbole, but still.....

Totally. Like this one time I haxored in my neighbors wireless router and then threatened someones life using their network. When the SWAT team showed up and cuffed my neighbor it was TEH AWESOME! Oh, wait, that never happened because I'm not a monster.
I think you are mistaking SWAT Teams with bounty hunters. The latter can (and have according to Law & Order) slaughter an entire family by mistake and get community service.
So how is that not counterfeit? By definition counterfeiting is an imitation that is made with the intent to deceptively represent its content or origins. Isn't that precisely what happened here?
The tricky part is, who makes the laws? Senators & Congressmen do. Who puts them in power? Voters do. And who decides what choices the voters have? Corporations do. A more cynical view would just skip the whole voter aspect altogether and say corporations put elected officials in power. Either way, consumers lose.
Everybody knows that Google is so |337 that even the spammers grace them with beta copies of new spam.

Yeah, I remember all the protests and petition drives related to Double Dragon.
Well said. And thanks for giving me intelligent answers without making me feel like an ass for even asking.

Unique is a stretch. But I can't say I seen any /. e-less signatures lately.

So I guess this means /.ers will now change their sig from 09-f9-11-02-9d-74-e3-5b-d8-41-56-c5-63-56-88-c0 to qtv.mobitv.com/sprintTVlive.mcd....
