It's a quasi-reboot. But hell, since Chronos is apparently only a few days away from Earth, as of Enterprise, what the hell does it matter anymore. Trek's been ruined for over a decade.
I don't care if they are young, the only thing that really bothers me is putting them all on the Enterprise together at that age. I realize ST doesn't have a really airtight canon chronology anymore (Berman and Braga saw to that), but it's just not right.
I thought the opposite: that Casino Royale was horrid and Quantum was much, much better.
And I *like* origin stories.
Agreed about Berman and Braga, though. They, and now their successors, don't really understand the Horatio Hornblower foundations of Star Trek, and that's why they continue to put out nonsensical, awful movies and TV series.
The whole POINT is that there isn't a "high mortality rate" amongst healthy adults. The infection rate in Mexico City is probably enormous, but with WHO's eye fixed on Mexico City, they've so far found only 7 deaths that are attributable to 2009H1N1.
You can make the statement that there could be more deaths of people that don't make it to hospitals, but there's no reports of bodies in the streets and actually disastrous conditions in Mexico City. The evidence just doesn't support it.
It's not racist. Mexico City's infrastructure is not great on average, and it's MUCH more polluted than NYC or LA. This isn't a knock against Mexicans, it's a fact of life.
Assuming that you are correct, you want to get the flu as soon as possible, so that you either die quickly (you won't, by all evidence) or acquire immunity before the rest of the population (and it has a change to potentially mutate into something worse).
People, stop spreading this stupid, unfounded meme. The folks who have been verified to have died from H1N1 2009 have been from a country with a poor health care system and a city that is horrible in terms of air pollution and other environmental conditions. No one except the Internet whargarbl squad is stating that the EIGHT people that the WHO has verified have died from this virus(the most well documented death being of a 23 month old, the very definition of those at-risk for dying from influenza) are adult, healthy people by first world standards. Even the guy who "died from the swine flu" and gave Obama that tour, turns out to not have had "swine flu" at all.
Yes, it is alarming in the sense that it is spreading so quickly off-season and it certainly is getting a lot of media attention, but I've seen people using the phrase "cytokine storm" who couldn't tell you what a deviated septum was last week. Knock it off already.
Mod parent up. "Cytokine storm" is the new Internet meme lately.
With the grand WHO total of deaths being caused by H1N12009 being EIGHT, and the most well documented death so far being a 23 year old, the whole idea that this is killing otherwise healthy (a BIG assumption, this is Mexico, not the US, the health care system and environmental conditions in Mexico City is not very good in the former and absolutely terrible in the latter case) adults is isn't founded at all.
As first world countries go, the Democrats aren't anywhere near an "extreme" party. Your view of the liberal spectrum that exist in functional, democratic countries is artificially constrained, and probably has been constrained purposefully by people who spend a lot of time complaining for a living. There's a gigantic distance between the left of the Democratic Party in the US and the bogeyman of Socialism that people (who, again, get paid to complain about such things) have been touting lately.
The argument being put forward is that his seniority and experience can continue to be utilized for the benefit of his state if he continue to serve. Sticking with his party is like going down with the ship, at the moment, and running as an independent is almost always a ticket to Also-Ran City.
He's smart. In PA in 2010, assuming Obama's administration doesn't entirely screw the pooch in the next 19 months, the GOP candidate has little chance of winning, even if the seat was empty.
It's somewhat ironic that the erstwhile living legend Ronald Reagan said something very similar when he stated, "I didn't leave the Democratic Party, it left me."
Except that if they were evacuating *after* they'd already seen the plane fly by, it was too late. A prime example of humans wanting to do *something*, even if its pointless.
The official word is that it was a half-training / half-photo-op exercise. Apparently the FAA and AF informed the NYPD and the Mayors Office ahead of time, which decided to do nothing with the information (including the decision to not tell the Mayor).
You have correctly discerned that, for significant portions of the US population, "the terrorists have won." There's a certain segment of the American citizenry that is 5 seconds away of losing their minds due to various terrorist scenarios they've had thrown at them by various parties.
The Venn diagram of that group with the "do it for the children" group overlaps quite a bit.

That's okay, First Contact ruined the Borg, anyway.
10 movies.
And we already did the pissed-off-Romulan thing the movie before this one.
Andreas Katsulas was the best Romulan, anyway.

Yes, they were sent there in Undiscovered Country. The last *good* Star Trek movie (directed by Nicholas Meyer, no less).
How Meyer could write both Wrath of Khan AND the snoozefest that was "The Day After", I do not know.

"...I should really just relax"
I miss that show.
IIRC the "Real Klingons" didn't appear until they got assimilated by V'ger in ST:TMP. It was a "big deal" at the time.
and the most well documented death so far being a 23 MONTH old
Sorry, fixed that for myself.

You need to look at polling done by someone other than Rasmussen, I think.
Everyone uses Lieberman as the go-to for that.
In PA, running as Independent after losing the primary in your party isn't legal, AFAIK.
Also he'd be losing all the funding from the DNC, and PA is pretty damn blue these days.
Lieberman is an exception, not a rule.

Blame the city of NY, not the Feds. Apparently they had plenty of notice but didn't do anything with it.

I hope that no one in NYC ever goes to Hong Kong, or they'll be petrified constantly by low flying jetliners.
