I hate it when people say "the big one is not far off" like there's some sort of cyclical nature to large earthquakes.

An area may, indeed, be earthquake prone, but there is no way that someone can validly say that a large (or small) earthquake is likely to happen soon (or unlikely to happen soon, for that matter.)

Leave the predicitions to Nostradamus. At least he doesn't feign scientific backing.

There is more info about what a hamdinger is at www.mst3kinfo.com

Essentially, they were a type of meat that some company made as a sort of "spam"-like product. It ended up being considered so inedible that it eventually became used as bait for tuna fishing boats, or something to that effect.

Joel left to persue other projects. Both sides say the parting was very friendly between he and Best Brains. Both Joel and Frank returned for episode 1001 "Soul Taker".

  6. No dust plume = good on No dust plume from Lunar Prospecter · · Score: 3

If you read the CNN article they have a comment from a JPL/NASA scientist who said that the lack of a dust plume is a good thing, because it means they didn't hit the crater wall. They wanted to hit on the bottom of the crater so they could get deep enough into the surface to expose/explode the water into space

  7. Re:Episode I on Phantom Menace Reviews · · Score: 3

A lot of people had this opinion of Babylon 5 as well. By mid-Season 1 we knew that Londo would be Emperor and that Babylon5 would be destroyed.

Same thing in this case, but by the previous poster's logic, there can never be a good prequel to anything, which is not true. It depends on the viewer's ability (or inability) to realize that a different kind of story is being told. One where the excitement is involved in _how_ you get to the conclusion, not what the conclusion will be.

Different kind of suspense, but suspense nonetheless.

  8. Bah on Phantom Menace Reviews · · Score: 2

This always happens with any big movie. The people who were totally, mindlessly enamoured of it see it first one way or another, then are disappointed because they didn't have constant orgasms while watching it, or the messiah didn't appear in an usher's uniform to seat them. They then proceed to tell everyone in the known world it was disappointing.

    Gee, I wonder why...

Bottom line is, if you expect nothing going into a movie, you'll never be disappointed. We've all known that critics are just bull*$#%ters anyways (Leonard Maltin gave _Laserblast_ 3 1/2 stars for chrissake), so why would people who saw the movie and happen to post them on the Net have any more validity as to our own personal opinions of a movie than theirs?

I mean, Taco said that there's been requests to reprint and what not, but anyone care to make bets on how long (if ever) it will be before this viewpoint makes it into the mundane (read mainstream) media (i.e. www.cnn.com, wire.ap.org, etc)?
