  1. Re:Why is indust stopping me frm seeing DVDs I PAI on DVD Situation Takes New Turn · · Score: 1

Even if they did make a player for linux, it would definately be proprietary (closed-source) which is bad. And what about people using other free (or non free) OS'es? Source can be easily compiled on any variety of OS'es with minor or no modifications. AFAIK, a company porting their commercial software to linux (ie netscape) is not a victory at all, but a failure.

I have an 8 GB IBM Deskstar sitting on my shelf right now. It makes a really good paperweight. :) A few months ago it started making all these really unhealthy grinding noises and later that day crapped out. The BIOS won't even detect it. The plus side to this story? THat was my windows drive, and I havn't installed Windows since. :)

Mozilla is good, but something GPL is better. Don't flame me, I'm sick of the typical response bashing the GPL for nonexistant reasons. Its just a better license for the community. Mnemonic is GPL isn't it? :)

This is not aimed specifically at the post I replied to, but all these people whining about E being slow are really starting to annoy me, and here's a little test to show you why: Fire up E, and make (or download - wuss :) ) an insanely simple theme with just a title bar and basic stuff much like window maker has. no textures or anything. then take that window, and drag it around all over the place. Great. Do the same in WindowMaker... guess which one is faster? If you have the RAM of course, E is much faster. Drop your prejudices and test for yourself, dont take my or anyone elses word for it. Anyway, on a less bitchy note, whens that file manager coming along? :)

I tried mnemonic a little while ago, and its far from done, although it looks promising.. Its true though, a browser needs to be a nice small simple app, not some huge gigantic bloated pig just to parse HTML and hraphics. all that java/javascript nonsense can come later, get the important part first. And use GTK of course, its perdy. :)

Although having doom is the coolest thing since... having doom, doom is not written to well, in the sense that its gonna be a bitch to make it cool. Now quake on the other hand... That would really kick some ass. I'd be hacking on that till the day I die.

I would say we (well, GNU. ;) should make an open free standard similar to postscript, but alas we can not seem to affect the hardware industry.

Maybe printer companies should stick this PCL garbage up thei... nevermind. Why dont companies make low-mid end printers with postscript. argh!. I have been looking for a 1200 dpi b+w laser with postscript forever, at a relatively ( $1000) low price. I may be dreaming, but postscript is way to rare. Seemed like a nice standard to me....

Yeah, sure, so whatever Intel does is the way to go now? Isn't that what is pissing everyone off about microsoft? I am honestly amazed that the entire world hasnt completely ditched intel after the whole PIII thing (you know what I'm talking about..). Especially since AMD now has FAR superior x86 processors. I dont get. Maybe those retarded intel ads really do affect people with IQ's > 10.
