  1. typical reporting - loaded questions on Americans Don't Want Targeted Ads · · Score: 4, Insightful

Two problems.. The population seems to think the automated systems care more about their privacy .. they just want to sell you stuff, not sell the history off to some PI that your ex hired .. And it's a loaded question. Article headlines saying Americans don't want targeted ads, but really it's Americans hate getting spied on. Had you have simply asked the question at hand "would you like advertising that is more likely to be involved or associated with your interests or your current activities." Arguably they could say your not allowed to show ads about football, when your watching the football game. Cause after all that's targeting your advertisement ..

"by default" it enables average users to use nifty adobe player functionality. (my pizza store, by default now remembers me and the last time i was there! wicked! You can also choose max disk space for these cookies, you can also easily delete them, and you can easily stop them from being saved. I agree the access to this information isnâ(TM)t "easy". but this is far from being a security problem. I had to go through just as much clicks to get to my firefox cookie, as to get to the flash cookies. They also store only information they request. Which in some cases means saved games files (for flash games) This article, with its hefty boldening of sentences, makes this out to be an OMG! situation, when it's not. Just as firefox, by DEFAULT, enables cookies and javascript code. Why can't flash? This panel can also be accessed when using almost ANY flash application, through the right click context menu. Seriously, this feels like very little investigation of comparison. American style scare-mongering at it's finest IMHO.

  4. your phone supports java apps.... on Cell Phones For Easy App Development? · · Score: 0

If I'm not mistaken, you can use the samsung pc studio to send java apps to your phone. You may not be able to save them to the memory card, but you should be able to run things without having to download from the internet. You just may have to download "more locally". Your question is not written properly. You state "they lied to me" which in fact they didn't, since your phone is indeed capable of supporting custom java applications, they just may not have been clear on the simplicity of the whole system. But that's hardly the fault of the salesperson. We can't expect them to know every detail about every phone they have ever been told to sell. Ideally ATT would be smart enough to not allow these types of shady dealings under their name...

  5. Dogs. on How Do I Prevent Lan Party Theft? · · Score: 0

If it's overnight, don't let people leave during the evening hours (with equipment). Tagging items is possible, but your only good chance is to have "easy to peel off" stickers, which would allow easy fraud... Making sure everyone is on their toes for their own stuff is a mighty good tactic. If everyone is constantly vigilant about their own stuff, theft will go down (using your audience as security guards). You'll need at least a few security people if your going have 60 people. That's a fair few people, and all it takes is two of them to get pissed off, and you could have chaos on your hands. With just a few people that inspect everyone leaving, you could prevent a whole heap of theft. One of your strongest paths will either be the classic fear mongering, or strict entry/exit requirements. One LAN I went to had "cards" that everyone got, and on them labeled our gear (we had to pre-register).. and you weren't allowed out with gear, unless it was on your card. And when you left, they crossed it off.

  6. MMO Black market on IRS To Go After eBay Sellers · · Score: 0

Trying to tax the MMO scene is like trying to tax the black market. It's "technically" "illegal" to sell most MMO stuff like gold and characters, at least for the most heavily populated. The irony? They will spend more on simply getting this through congress in terms of paying the various people who will have to spend time on this, as well as if it does go through, instituting some sort of scheme to track all this, then they will even get back. Most people who make enough money to actually have this cause a serious dent in their income, will just alter their techniques to make the money flow else ware (off shore bank accounts anyone? (as a simple easy solution)). Serious flaws in thinking this is going to work.

re: Robin Hood Effect... The day the two guys who spend 8 months in post-production editing the fancy master piece movie, gets near similar salary to the actors who spend 2-3 months filming, is the day I'll consider the ramifications of the actions when it comes to people downloading movies from big Hollywood production studios.
