GoG is oh so horribly addictive, with there quality games and ease of install. Plus most of them can be made to run on Linux without too much trouble, as a huge portion of the catalog runs in dosbox anyways. There's a fair number of independent publishers that do that sort of thing as well. Every dollar they spend on DRM is one more dollar they have to make to break even, and just that little bit more likely that they're going to piss off their own customers. The thing they like to ignore is that for the most part DRM only hurts people that purchase the game, pirate copies typically have the DRM stripped or in some fashion disabled, allowing people to use the game freely without restrictions on what other applications can be installed.
Except that this isn't like Germany or even Iraq, in both those cases there was still a considerable amount of shared culture. Even if the East Germans had become so accustomed to getting the same reward for busting their asses as for sitting on their asses, there was still a considerable amount of shared culture and language to reunite to.
Unfortunately in this case, there's been very, very little mixing of the nations people in the last 50 or so years, whereas with the Germanies there was at least minimal mixing over a nearly 30 year period of time that the Berlin Wall stood. Most likely the best we could hope for in the near term would be fore Kim Jong Il and his cronies to be ousted or otherwise leave power and for a period of time where there was at least some modest mixing of the people. As it stands now there's more in common, by far, between the Americans and Canadians, or the various groups withing China and India than there is between the Koreas.
That's an awfully risky move to take. Sure if he gets away with it he could leave the CIA with an unwarranted black eye, more likely though he'd be convicted or would piss the CIA off badly enough that they'd just disappear him.
Actually, if the prosecutor deemed the initial warrant baseless, that implies that it was at most he said she said, and probably less than that. Which definitely does imply that he wasn't guilty of rape. Prosecutors, at least here in the US tend not to give up that easy if there's a reasonable shred of evidence that it happened.
That the molestation charge is still under investigation should be of some concern though.
I expect that they'll stay rumors indefinitely. The main reason being that the EU tends not to have the balls or the resources to send in combat forces where we do, at least not as the lead. And yes, we've done some really stupid things over the years, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, but by and large, if we weren't willing to send forces into various places, it wouldn't get done, and over all it's been more good than bad having us go around invading people. As much as I dislike the practice personally.
That's not entirely correct, there is one level of secrecy above the President's clearance level specifically so that he can say that he doesn't know and be completely clean. Which is why even if there were contacts with Aliens, the President would be a lousy person to ask, because quite frankly, he probably wouldn't have clearance to see the files.
Scary yes, but I don't think it's necessarily the case that the President calls all the shots with intelligence.
Because he's unfortunately right. Women's groups chose to make an extremist example out of those crimes rather than the more accurate version of what really goes on. Consequently, good luck if you've been so abused, because it's unlikely to say the least that anybody's going to believe what really happened, let alone consider what you want out of all that if it doesn't involve extremely harsh punishment of the accused.
It's addiction the same way that some people get addicted to gambling, probably not addiction per se, but more likely something similar to the rituals of OCD wherein a failure to comply with the urge brings a form of punishment. I would've expected something more like Paxil or Prozac to have been what they were trying, unless this is a subtle slashervisement from the drug manufacturers office.
It's not addiction. Typically when a doctor takes you off a medication like that they'll decrease the dosage over a short period of time to eliminate the shock of being suddenly without. Compare that to say Cocaine where weening yourself off over a short period of time does little if anything and you'd see the difference. The harm your friend suffered was because of the sudden drop in levels, not the drop in levels. Some medications are more forgiving than others are.
Um, the Republicans are fascists and the Democrats are centrists. You can't have the kind of seriously polarized political environment if both sides are completely identical.
Rupert Murdoch just made a huge donation to the Republican party to elect Republican candidates in gubernatorial races. He's also an individual who's been known to bribe the odd politician here and there. When he purchased his American media holdings, he wasn't at the time legally allowed to do it due to a ban on foreign ownership of the media. A suspiciously large book advance to Newt Gingrich and a bit latter he's legally owning a media conglomerate. And since then his "news" organization has been overtly advocating for conservative candidates, which is an absolute no-no for a news organization to do.
Bullshit, perhaps in Illinois, Florida and Louisiana that's politics as usual, but quite frankly for people in the rest of the country it really isn't. Sure they tend to look more favorably on companies and individuals that donate to their campaign coffers, but rarely is it linked the way that Blago was linking them. In fact that's the main reason why he ended up being prosecuted. It was shocking in the bald faced nature of the corruption and it really only took one obtuse juror with no understanding of US politics to tip things to a mistrial. He would've been convicted on at least a few of the other charges had he not had the benefit of an apologist on the jury. One with apparent ties to his political machine.
No, courts get 3 choices, guilty, not guilty and mistrial. Not guilty means that the jury decided that the prosecution didn't meet the legal requirements for a guilty verdict, it does not now nor has it ever been the same thing as innocent. Sure many, and hopefully most are innocent, but it just means that the evidence wasn't sufficiently compelling to warrant a guilty verdict.
Once you're found to be guilty, the focus of the courts turns to the proceedings as you're now legally guilty whether or not you really did anything wrong. Which can come back to bite you on the ass if you later want to serve in the military, even if you were ultimately cleared, they may still hold it against you.
He wasn't found not guilty, the judge had to declare a mistrial on quite a few of the other counts, and he was convicted on one. He'll go to prison where he belongs, it's just a question of how many of the other charges stick for the next go round. Which likely will be a substantial number seeing as he won't have the funds for anything other than a public defender. Presumably that's what his appearance at the comic show was about.
They do, however they also presumably get to have jurors dismissed for cause, and in this case that seems like about as blatant a cause as any. The reason why they get those for cause choices is so that they can have problem jurors removed, as in jurors that are more than just undesirable removed.

The Case For Oracle
·
· Score: 2, Insightful
If it's a platform that you can write code for in Java language, then it damn well better compile under the standard Oracle Java, otherwise you're very blatantly infringing upon Oracle's trademark. Additionally, if you can do it the other way around, then it's really not Java language programming. This isn't C where platforms are allowed to be incompatible, the whole purpose of Java was theoretically to allow it to be written once and run on any platform with Java support. What Google has opted to do damages Oracle's trademark by referring to non-compatible software as Java language.
Not really, Oracle offers Java for free to anybody that's willing to follow the licensing terms. Google has apparently opted to not do so and as such is legitimately infringing upon Oracle's IP, provided it really is true that they haven't held up there end. As opposed to SCO who didn't own the IP and tried to sue parties for implementing from scratch a semi compatible code base.
This sort of thing is completely legitimate, there's no point to a cross platform language of this nature if there's no assurances that even standard libraries are properly supported on whatever platform you wish to use.
Right, which is why there's very little drawback to it. You burn it or you capture it and you burn it in a generator or use it in furnaces. In all cases you're somewhat better off for the reason you cite. But, if you use it for heating homes or generating electricity that's somewhat less capacity that you need from elsewhere.
LOL wut? Net neutrality would prevent this, yes, but it would also prevent ISPs from holding you hostage for not paying up. I get that you're a Libertarian and it's all ZOMG gubment doin' stuff, but give me a break. The suggestion that what we have now works is as laughable as it is wrong. At bare minimum there needs to be rules to ensure that things are conducted in an above the board fashion.
Additionally, this is in a sense a method of cheating, you're putting down extra money to have an in game advantage, It doesn't take a genius to see that it puts pressure on other players to pony up for it as well, whether it would otherwise be necessary or not.
That's true, however as soon as the owner of the card reports it to Google as fraudulent, they know to pull the extension. Which is the point of this after all, the money isn't important so much as knowing who you're dealing with.

You mean outside of South Korea, somehow I doubt that Kim Jong Il would be upset if you had materials suggesting that North Korea is super awesome.
To be fair though, it's just as well, considering how much trouble you can get in for disagreeing with the regime or failing to look happy enough.
That's an awfully risky move to take. Sure if he gets away with it he could leave the CIA with an unwarranted black eye, more likely though he'd be convicted or would piss the CIA off badly enough that they'd just disappear him.

Which is why it usually ends up in civil court as a slander or libel case as appropriate due to the lower standards.

If you're really curious, The Trauma Myth: The Truth About the Sexual Abuse of Children--and its Aftermath. Excellent book, if a bit depressing.
