I also see it kind of like the chicken and the egg problem...
If Linux were more popular among the desktop users, sellers of cool/popular gadgets would be forced to make an effort to support it. So in order to make this problem go away, more people need to use Linux, and Linux needs more support for the stuff to appeal to the masses...
Not easy is it?
Transgaming brags about all these great results on their website but the sheer number of workarounds and hacks to get a game to play are unbearable. And what's worse is that the games, once installed, randomly crash, screw up graphics, display incorrect fonts, lose mouse control, can't position correctly on the screen, takes an inordinate amount of Microsoft software to even function... BLAH.
is it just me or is a great deal of the bugs listed also bugs on windows?
Your solution would result in popup hell! Users would have to spend alot of time answering popups that should have gone to production / fun time...
That beeing said, i just don't understand why MS wan't to bloat their OS with so much stuff. What ever happened to the good old backup to disc or whatever of your important stuff?
I call it writing my name on snow with yellow letters, developed a late saturday evening waiting for a taxi in Tromsø(the north of norway). The effect is quite amazing, maybe when the winter comes i can get some pictures for you all!

I've had installs of Linux remove my Windows MBR and force grub as the default, its not just windows
What linux distros was this?
I have never had a single linux installation touch the MBR without me saying OK to it first. this is since i first started with debian woody and suse 6.0 back in the day.
Windows on the other hand does not offer the same favours. My last reinstall of windows XP destroyed grub!
I am not sure that would be the case, already there are many free alternatives out there.
So by following strict market thinking -> a companys chioce between Linux 0$ vs. MS loads of$$$$$ should be an easy winner for linux.
However this is not the case as far as i know. The market is obviously not suitable to handle this.
What is with this constant fear of aging?
People (mostly girls?) are scared to get some history on their body, and now videogames??
I think it is quite charming to dust off my old video games, and play them like "the good old days"
