For some definitions of 'better' a passive ID system is true.

For the rest of us, however, a passive ID is expressly what we do not want. When I am authenticating to a piece of technology, I want explicit control to trigger that action. I do NOT want it to happen without me thinking. I do NOT want it to become the assumed condition at all times.

The scenario for the future is passive Face ID devices peppered throughout our environment, tagging us everywhere we go. Not at all interested. Specifically, I am not interested in participating in the development of that technology by paying lots of extra $$ to be an early adopter.

It's radical leftist feminists who are pushing for porn censorship these days because it "promotes sexual violence" and "objectifies women." The whole religious right puritan push died decades ago.

I wonder if you even live here.

Indeed. President Trump's campaign and election did a lot to drain the Religious Right gasbags. That, along with terminating the Bush and Clinton dynasties, is one of the best things coming out of his presidency.

Apps? Seriously? Facebook runs a website. I would never allow binaries produced by Facebook to run on any of my equipment. I don't even allow Facebook logins on any of my main browsers.

Things like Facebook apps are immediately wiped on new Android devices as a first step in prepping them for use.

But it's easier just to torrent the mainstream stuff.

I would agree that for the most part they are morally bankrupt. So we should do whatever we can to discourage people from being corrupted by the morally bankrupt culture these operations disseminate.

It seems so tedious for people to be churning the same mainstream crap round and round on the net. Torrent distribution can only be so efficient before it turns into a big waste of bandwidth.

It seems the punishment in this case is extreme, but this guy was helping spread the poison into our culture.

Pedestrians can easily step over broken chunks of cement. Even if there are bits of metal protruding out of it. Cars going 20-25 mph can often avoid them, too. Clearly there is a need for a lot more random 'calming chunks' in the road bed in urban areas where pedestrians are common.
