Quoth TFA "Even though the images flashed up for just 50 milliseconds, roughly the duration of a single frame of standard television footage, their verdicts tallied well with judgements made after a longer period of scrutiny."
The human reaction time is about.25 seconds. This study erronseously assumes that the judgement is made during the time the image is displayed - of course, the image retention time on the eye end the lasting photographic imprint on the memory means that the judgement can happen well after the image is gone.
The physics of decay product transport makes it much more complex than that. Simply dumping waste into an old hole would likely poison an entire ecosystem.
And when the nuclear fuel runs out? How much land does a huge hole in the ground take up? How much land does a safe nuclear disposal facility take up?
We need clean, sustainable solutions that don't rely heavily on an exhaustible resource. The wind and the sun are going to last much longer than nuclear fuel.
Also note the article said it was an LCD display (liquid crystal display display). I guess if the credit card version becomes popular, people won't have to go to the automatic teller machine machine to put in their personal identification number number.
A court of law makes educated guesses. They are not sure about anything. Therefore nothing about this case is "obvious". That someone thinks it is obvious indicates a prejudice inconsiderate of the possibility of undue suffering of their fellow man.
Does the term "beyond reasonable doubt" ring a bell?
Other radioisotopes are often used for dating fossils, along with location in the strata etc.

I can see how producing clean, sustainable power is less important than the view a few beachside residents get.
Here's a number: Denmark supplies 20% of it's power from wind alone (http://www.onlineopinion.com.au/view.asp?article= 3057). But of course wind doesn't work...
Absolutely; Chernobyl residents were much better off without wind, solar or any of that other hippy stuff.
If I were allowed to put a windmill on my house it would go up today. I'm happy to put my money where my mouth is.

ROFL - a post about a waste of resources got modded redundant!
