When I read the headline, I thought it meant that Apple was only displaying the apology on its UK site and in so doing was "hiding" the apology from everyone. Gave me a good laugh to think that something posted to a UK site would be considered hidden. "Well sure the English can see it, but does that really count?" The real story was less funny and more disappointing (as far as Apple's actions go).
Being the best technologically doesn't translate into instant riches and success. I tend to be a Playstation fanboy, but my loyalty is tempered by reality. I'll wait until we see real live games being played on it. Then we can make comparisons between the three.
King Kong grossed over half a billion dollars worldwide. How is that a failure? Did it enter the stratosphere of absolutely huge movies like the Lord of the Rings or Spiderman? No. But it still did quite well for itself.
Lucas's comments also come in a year that saw box office goodness for his own Star Wars movie, The Chronicles of Narnia, yet another Harry Potter movie, and War of the Worlds--all of which made over $500m at the box office. What is he smoking?
Talk about an extreme take on the issue. Despite the launch hiccups, 360 is in a great position. It will be the only next gen console for a year of its life.
Does anyone seriously believe either Nintendo or Sony is putting out a console anytime in the next 9 months? Until that time, Microsoft owns the high end market. That year's time gives them a chance to iron out the wrinkles of the launch and to release some hyped up games. By the time PS3 and Revolution are playing first gen games, 360 users will be playing their second gen games.
When similar hiccups hit the PS3 and Revolution, the 360 will probably dominate next holiday too (this time with the supply to back it up). After I've said all that, I'll tell you I don't own an Xbox, don't plan to own a 360, and pretty much stick to the Playstation. Just in case you thought I was biased.
While I agree with you on general principles, in the end, Turbine/WotC are out to make money. And there is money to be had with subscribers who are casual players who want to solo game most of the time (if not all). I am an MMO player myself who tends to group, but I also like to solo sometimes.
I've never played DDO, but if there is little solo game it had better be very easy to form parties and quest together, or they will lose a chunk of subscribers that just don't care to socialize to play the game. Some just want to play alone (regardless of the fact that it is massively multiplayer). It's just good business to have a strong solo game even in a multiplayer scenario.
"This is not lack of demand but lack of supplies."
QFT. It's silly that Microsoft set any sales target. Apparently, they should have set a production target, since, well, they certainly didn't meet the demand that was there. It's sad to see yet another console launch marred by a lack of the product. In essence, they rushed the console out the door in time for the holidays and to beat big, bad Sony to the punch.
That said, Microsoft is probably going to do all right since the PS3 is still a ways from release. I keep hearing Q2 batted about, but let's be realistic, there's just too few rumblings coming from the head honchos at Sony to expect anything sooner than a Q4 release in time for the holidays. Then we can celebrate yet another console shortage! Oh yeah, and Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/National Atheist's Red & Green Day.

When I first saw the blurb, I just assumed that was a jab at how eternally long the series has been on television. How long can a show possibly last?
