    To answer the question: No. In the end, it comes down to having fun, which is mainly influenced by the gameplay. Of course, an ugly graphics is bad for gameplay, but even simple 2D-Interfaces can look good. Example: DEFCON (http://www.everybody-dies.com/)

    But then, thats a Management (tm) problem, if they don't follow their own rules, they didn't understand them in the first place anyway. Fire 'em, get some better ones.

    BTW: you should write the specs first anyway....

    I don't think the french can be lured by money. They are very patriotic, and the political decision to spend money on French products instead of giving it to a U.S. based monopoly-accused company can be hold up easily.

    That's basically the same everywhere. But some of the phones are sold for less than that (price + contract payment factored in) than buying them without a contract, because the providers want to make money with your phone calls. So you could buy such a subsidized phone and get another (cheaper) contract elsewhere. Happens a lot with "PrePaid"/"Pay as you go" bundles.

    My parents don't know their admin/root password. They are logged in as "normal" users, own homedirectory, adressbook, ... - if something has to be changed, they will call me anyway!

    most of the promotions for them pass me by - and a lot don't appeal.
    I think here lies the best part of viral marketing. Assuming, that most of your friends know what (style, content...) you like, the company could offer serveral different trailors as promotional videos. When your friend will recommend the movie (or else) to you, he can select which of the trailors will be the most interesting to you, therefore maximizing the effect of it.

    ...after the three-year warranty ran out, the DVD drive started to get sketchy. And that was a $2k machine too --- I shudder to think what the $1000 boxes are like.
    They break before the 3 year warranty rans out, therefore saving you even more money.

    Probably with a seven-line PERL script, no less.
    You can do multiple lines in perl? Wouldn't that increase the readability of the code and is therefore suppressed by the executer by default?

    I don't know exactly what you are doing with Visio, but in general, there is a mac-based solution to it: "OmniGraffle" (http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnigraffle /) works great. It even has Visio im-/export and is not as expensive as one could think. All my windows-bound colleagues envy me.
