"We are the people" is true, but you're NOT the RIGHT kind of people.
All this conversation above omits to recognise that these CORPORATIONS, blood-thirsty vampires that they may be, are OWNED by shareholders. It's the shareholders requirement for the corporation to do absolutely fucking anything to make that extra buck that drives such legislation.
You ordered a "public stock marketplace", and you got a serving a psychosis on the side.
If you don't want these corporations promoting legislation to increase profits, then you must FIRST remove all corporation-funded political activity. Pretty hard, that one.
"The people" , the stockholders, have issued their commands to make more money, fuck the competition, ignore the environment, and that's why you the "little" people are getting screwed.
I believe Captain Flightsuit is promoting: The Ownership Society.
Go buy yourself a piece of the action, and fuck your neighbour over too. Each to their own, that's the modern capitalist society of today.
We might as well release all female detainees while we're at it, because that's one of their consistent demands as well.
Sadly, most of such female detainees are simply be held as hostages until their male family members surrender their civilian asses to the particular militia, be that militia domestic or "imported".
One would hope you would want your wife, mother, sisters and daughters released when you have committed no other crime than being a male citizen.
It has to be said: I, for one, welcome your new Bush ovelords. Perhaps it will wake the fuck up the morons who still think you have a functioning democracy. Nothing else does.
In addition, the decommissioning costs of existing nuclear plants is astonishingly high.
If we wish to address climate change, we have to USE UP some of the excess energy that we have pumped into the system by unearthing the hydrocarbons AND uranium. As previously mentioned, space solar power isn't an option, because that ADDS to the net energy of the earth. Oil, gas, coal, nuclear all have the same net effect in the long run, it's only in the short term that there are significant differences. Wind, solar, hydro, tidal, heat differential, current all have similar net effects : they redirect existing energy, often with naturally much lower efficiencies (so far). Almost all biofuels achieve much the same (environmental degradation aside, and certainly not trivial), because they are using existing energy (plus the solar that we can't feasibly slow down). Some biofuels are better than others, because they can utilise EXISTING biomatter that degrades anyway and releases CO2 and energy into the atmosphere of its own accord. Others require demolition of rain forest to produce soy, and they obviously suck. But we, the species, must find a way to at least LEVEL the net energy value, and hopefully some time soon find a way to eject or resequester both CO2 and energy.
I'd heard it said that, curiously, those with strong immune systems are more likely to cook themselves to death. Those with weaker systems would be more readily able to benefit from the "tamiflu" remedies, although I'm certainly not an immunobiologist.
Quite a screw on the Darwinian theory... any comments ?
"i dont want my kid to suddenly stumble upon a pop up of a naked woman in an indecent position."
Dude, this is slashdot, man. Most of us can't imagine what an "indecent position" would be.
All positions look pretty good to us.
Now I gotta go find how to enable those popups you were talking about...
And besides, what's the point of Apple signing up to OLD technology ?
We're more likely to see Skype release a hotspot VOIP phone.
There's already the USB Skype phone that sold out almost instantly in Japan.
Why would anyone want to PAY for a phone call now ?

Well, I, for one, welcome our new sub-Intelligence Civil Liberties Overl ....

no, wait

Last I heard, Israel DOESN'T have borders, at least none that it wishes to declare.
You can still spell "Wanker" with only your left hand.
