There is a simple solution - Naive Bayes Classifier
1) Customizable (per account)
2) 99.9% accuracy after training
3) Discovers non-obvious patterns
Why does this keep getting ignored by the general public? There are several software suites that use this model to detect spam.
"We really don't have to 'see' something to know it's there."
That's the truth. Just like you don't have to see God to know He is there. You observe the effects and realize there is an influential force behind those effects.
"Dr Zhao and Dr Famaey will demonstrate their new formula to an audience of Dark Matter and gravity experts from ten different countries." How can you be an expert in something that has not been proven formally? lol
"I was PARALYSED, convinced I was going to get killed any minute, and tried to stay as low as possible (just like any guy would)..."
Actually this is not true. Everyone handles emergency and high-intensity stress situations differently. Where one may be paralyzed, and unable to respond quickly, another may be able react instantly and mentally/physically deal with the situation.
The beautiful thing about all this is that humans can be conditioned to handle the intense situations. Look at ER physicians, and nurses who have to be level-headed in a crisis situation.
Video games develop more of your twitch-sensitivity and ability to analyze multiple inputs at once. If you have ever played unreal tourney for 6 hours straight, you tend to feel a sense of mental exhaustion if you are an intense player. You are thinking about the guy in front of you, behind you, next to you, above you, the health pack you need, the door opening, there goes the flag etc.. Certainly not akin to the real world, but it trains a mental skill, which is useful in combat.
One of the biggest problems people face in war is dealing with pain, and not freaking out. You can handle the insanity mentally from external inputs, until you have an immense overwhelming internal input (i.e. a burning pain). Good training for this is to experience hand-to-hand combat, and learn to deal with less acute pain on a long term basis. It develops your ability to mentally deal and ignore the pain and push on to perform. Vale tudo has helped me with that. At first when i was pinned and being kneed and punched, I didn't know what to do, I just covered up and tried to ride it out(which doesn't work). But over the months of training I learned to think effectively and respond appropriately while taking some blows to ge tout of the situation.
My two cents
"1) You confuse "Christian" with "creationist" I seriously doubt that those examples were all creationists."
No, I didn't get to ask them which theory they lent support to. lol, but my point was not that. It was that they had a belief in God, yet remained respectable (and sometimes leading) scientists in their field. Christian != stupid as much of the scientific and non-scientific community likes to imply.
"Indeed. And to defame an expert biologist's conculsions in his field of study when one has not shown any aptitude in the topic is likewise foolish."
I agree, and am not making any scientific claims myself toward one theory or the other.
There are plenty of creation or intelligent design scientists formally educated in the forementioned fields of science. Though much of the public at large (including those who have no formal education) tend to downplay the thoughts a theories of this particular set of scientists because they happen to be outside the scientific "norm". If I recall correctly, many great minds were labelled as kooks and hacks in their time, until someone later proved their points scientifically.
What I am trying to say is keep and open mind and don't shut down ideas immediately because they don't align with your beliefs. Many scientists are just as guilty at doing this, as are creation scientists who deny factual information.
"Where are the groundbreaking observations from creationists? I don't see any."

Here is a link to an incomplete list of groundbreaking creationists. Individuals who had a firm belief in God and His creation. One that was not mentioned but was definitely a believer in God was, the father of Genetics, Gregor Mendel. If you want to deny these intellects, that is fine. But the fact remains that some of the most memorable scientists also had a belief in a higher-power not of this natural realm.
I personally do not find a conflict with reason, science, and my belief in Jesus or God. Though many have mocked me and insinuated sub-human intelligence (because of my beliefs), most(flamers) have nary a credential as mine. I am not trying to brag, be arrogant, or act like I am superior, but to question someone's intellect when one's own level has not been confirmed(through a formal method) is foolish.
It's 2:54 am, please excuse the grammar.

Unfortunately you are right it is one a case to case basis. One student may have enrolled in a security course while another completely skipped over it. Security really should be a requirement for all CSE and optional for CS even though the degrees (these days) seem interchangeable.
I agree that I do not have the knowledge that a formally educated biologist does. However I am still a scientist and apply scientific methodologies not only to my field of expertise but to all aspects of life. This would include debates on evolution. There are many individuals who do not have a formal education in a field of science but are credible and capable of higher reasoning. The fathers of almost every field of science, made groundbreaking observations, that no other individual had made at that time. Many of their observations form the foundation for educated scholars today. My point is that you don't have to be an expert in a field to understand concepts or low-level detail.

Don't discount someone right out of school. A person with a two-year technical degree may not understand the concepts of security; but a person with a masters in computer science or engineering most likely would. It doesn't take an engineer to program PHP, but it does take some common programming knowledge to create well-structured applications.
"And if you publicly come out against it and in favor of some alternative theory for which the only evidence is a religious text, chances are pretty damn good that you are incapable of holding a logical thought in your head to begin with."
Is that right? I guess I am carrying a 4.0 GPA in computer engineering grad school cause I am not capable of holding a logical thought in my head. Sounds like you are lacking the brain.
"Not so much from a technical standpoint, but the fact is, so much of it is user-created and comes at little expense."
The "internet" was not user-created. It was engineer designed and created. Electrical engineers (which are now computer engineers) designed a network structure in hardware and software. The "world wide web" is what you are referring to which constitutes only a small set of protocols that are commonly associated with it.
If you guys are going to make claims about Christianity, then you should know what you are talking about. You refer to old testament scripture that does not fall under new testament teachings. Christians do not live under the rule of "killing non-believers" because now there is a way to become redeemed (through Christ) which was previously unavailable before His time. You don't like this guy taking things out of context, then don't do it yourselves either. Before you criticize, do research and form a solid basis for your arguments.
To be a "well intentioned Christian" does not mean you have to support the likes of Dobson, Robertson, Falwell, or Bush. I personally do not hold any of them in high esteem, and I AM a Christian. I have always pushed for protection of the environment, because it is our "home away from home" and future generations of Christian and non-Christians have to utilize this planet. Apparently you either do not know very many Christians or you are not stating that you have met environmentally conservative Christians. There are many, we just often get drowned in the noise of criticism from people like yourself (and even criticism within our congregations). Stereotypes don't service anyone except the arrogant.
You statements sound juvenile and foolish. I am a Christian and also a computer engineer in grad school with a 4.0 GPA in my third semester. Graduated with a bachelors in computer science Magna Cum Laude. I can think of 9 engineers (aerospace, chemical, civil, electrical, and mechanical), 1 physicist, and 2 mathematicians that attend my church (that I know of). All with a masters degree or PhD. Before you make the assumption that "Christians are the primary anti-science force", you should ge to know some educated Christians first.
