They are doing this because they don't want to be outdone by the other (better) video sites that are paying and slowly but surely taking users away. (www.revver.com, www.metacafe.com just to name a few)
From 100 hits you could earn 5 dollars from a picture? RIGHT!
If they do give that much they will not survive, youtubes bandwidth is about 1 million dollars per month and they are just starting to turn a profit. Good luck anyways.
