For those of you who don't know, you can send Mr. Gore an email telling him just how much you like/dislike his corporate smoozing. If he likes your email enough, he might just come to your birthday party and do the macarana once his political career is in shambles! (For a small fee I'm sure)

So start churning out those emails fellow slashdotters.

  3. old news on NT vs. Linux - Mindcraft Vindicates Itself · · Score: 1

I had a friend in high school who's parents bought him a brand new Ford Mustang. It outran my poor Honda Civic, which was about 8 years old, even though my car was regularly maintainance by certified Honda technicians. I'm absolutely positive that if I had been driving a new Honda of any model that I still would not be able to keep up with the Mustang as far as raw speed is concerned.

But as far as total cost of ownership, the Mustang loses by a long shot. My annalogy is a bit flawed however. Linux is becoming more of a Corvette at a Honda Civic price each and every day. Bah to those that think commercial software developes faster or more efficiently.

One other point, the white papers are dated June 30, 1999. That means that the test was run how long ago? All this means is that the latest version of NT outperforms old Linux technology. I'm happy that these tests are on the up and up, but I see absolutely no reason to be impressed by NT.

    My $0.02 worth.

Yes, I've run Starcraft under WINE as well. WINE has a noticable slowing down effect on my K6200 w/32Mb system as compared to when I was running Starcraft on Windows 95b. IMHO, it is always more desirable to run games on their native platform.

    More Linux games!

Why not ask those classy fellows at Loki Entertainment Software to port it to Linux

I sent them an email asking for a Linux port of Blizzard's StarCraft and I recieved this reply within a couple of hours:

    >Please port StarCraft by Blizzard to Linux.

Blizzard has taken a "wait and see" approach to Linux gaming. If the sales numbers are up there for our current releases, then they will be more willing to negotiate with us to port their great titles to Linux.

We hope you'll be happy with our upcoming announcements. We expect to port 16 titles next year alone.

    Cheers,

So lets all buy up the current selection and lure more gaming companies to Linux!

And Wolfenstein was and still is awesome :)

I would like to see the court order that from now on the operating system and anything bundled with it must be open sourced. Let Microsoft bundle IE with Windows 2000 then!
