For another, flamebait would be saying "Muslims are the suck" and not explaining why. You haven't seen the film, so you obviously can't know if it's flamebait or not.

  8. Re:YAML and JSON on Tim Bray on the Birth of XML, 10 Years Later · · Score: 2, Insightful

    Actually, OS X uses plists because XML, which is more widely known than YAML and much easier to learn, is built directly into the Cocoa API.

    Using an XML file basically consists of the following code:
    NSError xmlError = [[NSError alloc] init];
    NSXMLDocument doc = [[NSXMLDocument alloc] initWithContentsofURL:@"Put your URL here" options:NSXMLDocumentTidyXML error:&xmlError]; //Handle errors around here

    Then you can basically do anything with your doc object. You can insert a child at a certain index, you can ask it for the root element, you can set the DTD to something else, you can apply XSLT to get transformed XML or HTML markup back, you can validate it against its DTD, you can delete children at a certain index, etc. All of these actions take one line. It's a really beautiful, simple system. YAML is... not.

    Design is relatively subjective. I don't think it's right for me to critique design for being undesigned, because that quality is fairly ethereal. The 'designy-ness' of a design is directly proportional to the amount of work and thought put into it. I can think of many times when designed projects don't go over well with the public, but their popularity doesn't define the level of design. I don't know how much time or work they put into their website, so I don't know which choices are intentional and which ones are just whatever.

    But really, green and white? Asian brushstrokes used as graphic? The 'bamboo beauty' theme has been done to absolute death. I wish Humanized the best, but I'm kind of dissapointed that Mozilla didn't spring for someone who wasn't quite so green.

    That's funny, all of the people I've met who work at an Apple store are incredibly well dressed. But your anecdotal evidence is clearly more accurate than mine.

    But to me, it's like walking into a very feminine beauty parlor, or a lingerie department as a man.
    Oh, well, this would explain it. You need to grow some self-esteem so that you can become comfortable with your sexuality. It is not normal to feel uncomfortable around places designed to attract the gender opposite to yours. The normal response is indifference. Your response indicates latent bisexuality or homosexuality. You might want to check up on that.
    But seriously, "for normal people, it's a very alien experience"? I just don't even know how you can say that kind of thing seriously. Are all people heterosexual men in your little fantasy world? That's also kind of mccreeps. What do they do in their free time? Not have sex, apparently.

    Final comments: Many people who work for Apple Stores are indeed homosexual, bisexual, transexual, or questioning. I know this for a fact because I've worked at one. The fact that the stores make you uncomfortable, and that you think that they're similar to lingerie departments run by vagrants, indicates that you have a serious reality perspective/gender identity issue.

    In the real world, everyone is at least somewhat motivated to do work because they're being payed. In school group work, one or two people are motivated to get a perfect grade, and the rest are often okay with whatever. In reality, it isn't really group work. One person does the entire project, the rest just get the grade.
