Yea I recently had to add a new modem to my account (after my wife dumped water on the old one...), and the support guy I called first told me to go to the website with IE, but I told him I had Linux, and he actually knew what it was! He said he could do stuff on his end to get the MAC added, so we chatted for 15 minutes while he did his thing, and turns out he was in college getting a CS degree. So I got lucky getting one of the techs who actually know a little something. I'm just worried about next time I have to change a modem and I don't get so lucky....
I had a similar problem with a Cowon D2 and rhythmbox. I'd plug it in, it would mount, but rhythmbox never saw it. I found this:

basically just create an empty file.is_audio_player on the root of the device and rhythmbox will recognize it when you plug it in. I believe this only works in mass storage mode.
So go with NPR, the comedy central "News" shows and some helper monkeys and you'll be reasonably well informed
Yea thats exactly how I get my news, and the sweet thing about it is, I dont even need a tv. NPR on the radio and TDS downloaded so I can watch it with my coffee each morning. Substitute a few blogs for helper monkeys, and I'm with you.
So, someone's finally starting to get what we want.
For some time, I have had a media box set up at home (behind the couch) running Azureus. Combine that with Hamachi, Firefox, the ConQuery extension and the WebUI plugin for Azureus, and I am a right click away from downloading any torrent I want whereever my laptop is. Tivo's got me beat though, because I can't do it from my phone (yet...).
On the other hand, I've got Tivo beat because I can do what I want with the media I get this way.

As long as its not your job to support vista, just tell them "Sorry, I don't do windows." That stance has worked out fine for me.
"computer open http://goodbye-microsoft.com/"
and what RTSP streaming server are you using?
I wish i could delete this question from my brain

Give Synergy a look.
