Growing up in Alaska, I've seen the Aurora Borealis many times... but it is almost always just the phosphor green color. The red coloration is actually quite rare; I've seen it in person only once, and remember it only dimly. I assume these shots are all facing north. I'm also impressed with the quality of the digital photos. My old Kodak D210 definitely couldn't take night shots like that!
You know it's all over for Disney when even Mattel is making better movies than they are now. (Actually, these movies quite remind me of the old Disney movies, only using CGI.)
That depends on whether they are hiring them in order to make better movies (doubtful), or hiring them in an attempt to sabotage DreamWorks production. There's more to life than money, you know... there's also artistic integrity. Last I checked, that was in short supply at Disney. Remember, Disney is using the same business model as Microsoft: Rip off other people's intellectual property, then jealously guard it as your own.
Deep inside the Disney corporate offices: "Oh-oh, we're in trouble now! Where do we find an out-of-copyright story to rip off that involves a cowboy AND and astronaut?"
Disney hasn't done anything original on their own in YEARS (nay, DECADES). Not quite. Fantasia 2000 was the last good thing that Disney produced themselves. It was also the last thing that Roy Disney accomplished before they kicked him out. Yes, in some ways, it is a sequel to Fantasia. But in other ways, it is quite original. And much of it is based on artwork and proposals that were locked in the vaults for decades...
Disney is in the process of setting up a digital animation facility in Glendale -- not far from the digs of its bitter rival DreamWorks Animation. Mickey Mouse wouldn't stoop so low as to try to hire talent away from his competitor, would he? Unfortunately, Eisner is not Mickey Mouse...
Uh, no... that's a flame... I think they stole it from a gas company. But I do find all these "erectile dysfunction" advertisements very objectionable. But then, I find the ads with psychotics muttering to themselves "step away from my chicken McNuggets!" objectionable too...
Where can I get modified hardware that doesn't do what the DVD tells it to? Are they attempting to create new opportunities for grey market DVD players?
When Open Source is outlawed, only outlaws will have Open Source...
What this all this IP protection is doing is creating disrespect for the law in the majority of citizens. Do we have a moral responsibility to obey unjust laws, or is the greater common good better served by violating them?
On the bright side, Ashcroft is also resigning... what are the chances that his successor will re-expose the statue of justice? Or better yet, what are the chances that his successor will not regard the Constitution as little more than toilet paper?
If you can do more work per clock cycle, you can be both slower and higher performing. That's what the article is about, Intel is backing away from it's failed marketing push equating MHz with processing power.
My laptop and one of my desktops are 700 MHz machines, and while not the latest zippiest out there, are perfectly adequate for my needs, and I imagine most peoples'
If this causes a lot of earthquakes because it lubricates the faults might it not be used to untension high risk areas? Put some lubricant in the ground wich causes a lot of small earth quakes to take energy away from the ground so there is not enough left for a big one? Well, yes. IIRC, there was a proposal to run down the San Andreas Fault pumping water into holes while simultaneously pumper water out of holes on either side; the theory being that this would let the fault slip a little bit at a time, and therefore prevent a large earthquake from occuring. (Can anybody cite a reference to this?) Not sure why this was never actually done, although the costs of drilling and pumping would be high, the costs of an earthquake would be higher. Probably it was decided that we simply don't understand the mechanism well enough to predict exactly what will happen.
Right... like the fact that the Colorado dries up before it ever reaches the ocean doesn't effect the fish runs any! No, this is purely to benefit the people downstream pumping water back out of the Colorado...
I mean, you wouldn't want all that salt water eventually ending up in the ocean, now would you? Here's an idea: why not let all the people downstream pumping water out of the Colorado desalinate it?

Come on dude, there must be some slightly more valuable way to spend your time. Right! I mean, if this guy has spent all that time downloading porn, I could understand it, but music?!?

Depends on the bit rate and average song length. I've got about 10,000 songs all ripped from my own CDs using Variable Bit Rate with 100% quality (whatever that means!) and it takes up about 62 GBytes of disk. So high quality would take closer to 5.6 TBytes. But I'm sure most of the stuff this guy has free^H^H^H^Hdownloaded is of a lower bitrate... in which case this guy is not really preserving all recorded music, he is just preserving a lossy copy of a lot of music. I also sincerely doubt that this guy has actually listened to even a small fraction of the tracks to make sure they are are not garbage planted by the RIAA or others to diminish the value of P2P music sharing!

Let's see how they manage to work fart jokes into a movie about toys! Yuck!
What happened to creativity anyhow? It left with Roy Disney when they kicked him out... granted, Roy was no Walt, but at least he tried.
Toy Story 1 and 2 are my favourite Full CG Cartoons.
Haven't seen Shrek 2 or The Incredibles yet, I take it?

How do you say "Resistance is futile... You will be assimilated!" in cockroach?
Because then they would have wasted all that money buying SuSE, wouldn't they?
If you listen carefully, you can almost hear the staff laughing in the background when the announcer recites their slogan: "Fair and Balanced!"
