Hello, the PR was straight from the marketing office of Netscape. To be honest you have to read not: "will be used by technology industry leaders IBM, Intel, Liberate, NetObjects, Nokia, Red Hat, and Sun Microsystems"
but: "will be used by Microsoft-adverse industry leaders IBM (which was pissed off by the MS-Andersen deal), Intel (this is the only company that doesn't fit my theory), Liberate (this company was founded by Netscape and Oracle under the name of Navio), NetObjects (pissed off by Frontpage and owned in part by IBM), Nokia (which was pissed off by the MS-Ericsson deal), Red Hat (which is pissed off just by MS), and Sun Microsystems (which is pissed off just by everyone and has Iplanet with Netscape)"
An ebook doesn't take particular advantage of an OS. Basically it's like selling a book only to be distributed by BN or Amazon. It does not enhance the earnings of the writer nor protect the interests of the buyer. Why should I endorse a middle man that limits my right to choose? Why should I pay $$ for an OS if I only want to read an ebook? What if my granma has an iMac? That's why I consider it stupid to limit the distribution of a Windows-only client. If I'm not wrong I've seen others who distribute a PDF version of King's new ebook, which is portable under many OS, and this is a smarter solution, IMHO.
Amazon is giving away also the book. You have to download a reader that runs only on Microsoft OS. Veeeeery stupid. Read it here.
Nice song I've written

Bye, bye Miss American Pi drove my Chevy to the levy but the levy was dry an them good ol' boys were drinkin whiskey and rye singin this will be the day that I die, this will be the day that I die.
DISCLAIMER: I'm not affiliated with Vitaminic nor MPAA/RIAA
I have read the acticle and I was stunned of the short-sightness of Mr. Valenti. I don't know if Salon intended to show him in a bad light, but they surely succeded in doing that. IMHO, the MPAA is missing the point in their view of the long term. They act as they will always have full control of what is broadcast/played/etc. But have they envisioned a future where the artists don't go after them to sell their works? What if appear an indipendent company that distribute MP3, films and other content on the Net with a fee very low and attract the new artists? The air supply of MPAA & RIAA will last a generation and then (perhaps) they won't have enough money to continue their bullish operations. In Europe Vitaminic.com has begon to operate this way, they distribute MP3 of new artists. In the USA MP3 also operates with a similar model. MPAA and RIAA are like headless chickens that are running away trying to save their heads from being severed and without realizing they are already dead. Perhaps they will manage to win in US courts, but the Internet law will prevail.
My company recently switched name, from interActiva become e*maze, what/.ers readers think of our new name? The engineers didn't like it, so it was the best option we had (other included karoshi, securio, droolingidiot.com) Bye the Lord Snow White
we would like to develop a cursor changer software something like Comet Cursor but without trojans. Open source and possibly cross platform. We're looking for help and even legal advice. Email me or lsw@emaze.net (my business address).
Good karma to anyone who will help us. It's time to protect the end user's privacy.

No conspiracy, just propaganda.
