  1. We need this to protect us from Airplane-Users on Ellison Wants National ID Card, Powered By Oracle · · Score: 1

Based on the WTC tragedy, it is apparent that Airplane-Users can't be trusted, they are evil.

So, we *need* this ID card, so that everyone's background can be checked before boarding an airplane. Of course, one must have this ID card with them if possessing an Airplane Ticket when outside of one's home.

We could do an Instant Background Check, but to be really safe, we need a 10 day Waiting Period, where you won't be able to board an Airplane until at least 10 days after purchasing a ticket. Just in case someone decides to use an Airplane in a crime of passion.

Airplanes must be kept locked up, until time for take-off. We wouldn't want some child to accidentally use an Airplane. It doesn't matter that airplane safety has gotten better over the years, this incident shows that Airplane-Users can't be trusted.
And no more of those Saturday Night Layover Specials! If you can't afford a decent ticket, then you don't deserve to fly! With the proliferation of these Saturday Night Specials, *anyone* could use an Airplane!

Did you know you could buy Airplane Tickets over the Internet?! It's shocking, but true! We need to cut down on the availability of these Tickets, and one must get a Federal License in order to sell them.

New York should take the lead, as they have in anti-gun legislation, and make Airplane Tickets illegal! After all, if there weren't any Airplane Tickets available, then no Airplanes could be used to harm people.

Oh sure, so the people with money and power will still have their Airplanes, but we all know from experience that these kind of rules don't apply to them.

And don't tell me about all the good uses of Airplane Tickets, I don't want to hear them. After all, if we can save only one child ...

Actually, it is pretty stupid to have these huge heatsinks held on with strong pressure on little plastic tabs. They break easily.

My motherboard has 4 mounting holes for heatsinks, but there's only a couple of fans available to fit, and they are extremely expensive. But, that's the way to go.

  5. Re:ATI = Driver Trash on ATi Radeon 8500 · · Score: 1

I wasn't aware of the long standing driver reputation that ATI had before I bought my Radeon. Although, I think it has gotten better. Beta releases for Wintel have been coming out regularly and I'm very happy with the recent beta while running Tribes 2.

However, their Win2K drivers are known for not being as good as the WinME/98 drivers.

I chose Radeon instead of Nvidia because Nvidia abandoned 3DFX users after buying the company.

Because of Tribes 2, I need high quality *and* high framerates which I'm not getting from the Linux DRI drivers. (TCL/T&L isn't supported.)
So, it appears that I'll have to succumb to Nvidia unless ATI truly shows significant Linux support. My plans were to get a Geforce3 when they drop under $250, but I'll go with the new Radeon if ATI can give me confidence in their new Linux drivers.

    1. Buy a little company that puts out great games and has a loyal following.

    2. Force them to release a game too early and spend months releasing patches to fix the problems.

    3. Fire the staff and close the company once the game comes near to a final product.

I'll never buy another Sierra product again. And this is from a guy that bought *both* the Win32 and Linux versions of Tribes 2!

They really have some idiots running Sierra, eh?

This app is just a licensed version of DateBk3 or DateBk4. Noting is keeping a Palm owner from purchasing this app.

In fact, the last time I checked DataBk3/4 had a few more features. And it is only about $25 with profits going to a Gorilla sanctuary in Georgia. http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/

This is one of the very few apps that I thought was worth paying for.

Note that if you overclock your CPU, bus speed, memory bandwith, graphics card performance, network speed and harddisk perfomance are still unchanged.

  9. Re:I am a gay man who is adopting a child on Interview With Eric Allman And Kirk McKusick · · Score: 1

I, for one, will argue that the average gay male couple will make better parents than the average straight couple.

Based on your argument, I would have to agree. (I wouldn't have, before today.) However, society isn't quite ready for that yet.

I've always preached tolerance of other people's views to my kids. Never denigrated people because of their sexuality, and tried to keep their minds open to understanding. (And I'm even a "gun nut"! So, one can preach personal responsibility *and* have an open mind.)

Kids are under a lot of peer pressure. Image is everything. When we were kids, we would call someone a queer or fag as a derogatory term, no matter whether they were or not. Even though society is supposed to be much more enlightened now, my younger son will derogatorily say "That's so gay!" when it has nothing to do with sexuality.
If I was gay and in a relationship, my kid would be too embarassed to bring home any friends. I'm not proud of this fact, but I'm sure that it is very common among teenagers. Kids want to fit in.

It would be a tremendous kid that can ignore peer pressure and be proud enough of their gay parents to bring home their friends.

This is sad. But it is reality, for now.

On top of that, I had to pay a premium to get the linux version. But I felt it was worth it to foster the movement. But maybe some people wouldn't think it was worth it and bought the PC version instead.

I understand that the economies of scale will allow PC games to always be sold at a discount, but if they had bundled them together than the linux versions could also have taken advantage of that.
