  1. Trillian .74 still logging in... on MSN Messenger Kickbans Third-Party IM Clients · · Score: 0

Only Yahoo still fails to allow login.

  2. omg a/s/l aololol on AOL Bridges AIM and ICQ · · Score: 0

AIM has ~33 Million users. ICQ has ~6 million users. According to ComScore Media Metrix at least.
Go register for an ICQ account. The numbers are far beyond the 6 million mark. As far as AIMs ~33 million users? Yeah, with people still dumb enough to pay that kind of price for shoddy dial up, it makes sense there'd be so many AIM users.
Fact is, AIM is less functional. It lacks many of the features that made ICQ superior. Of course if you're smart and use Trillian, this is all moot anyhow, as you've had "cross network compatibility" long before any of the big comapnies pulled their heads out of their posteriors. ~33 million users, the largess of which are lame wanna be 5c|21p+ |1dd13z.

  3. Been there... on Rewriting The Past With Zelda · · Score: 1

...done that. This was on Zophar's Domain a few days ago. I've been playing it for a few days. Definitely harder than the original, by at least a factor of 2. I found level 1 once or twice, enough to get the map for it and my sword, but I'm damned if I can find level one again. >:|

  4. I work for the Shack, and I know nothing of this.. on Free Cable Modem From The Shack · · Score: 1

Perhaps the Shack this guy went to is a franchise, and not corporate? I work in a San Diego Shack, and we push MSN dial up and DSL, using Northpoint hardware (Northpoint being owned by the Shack now), and MSN satellite broadband using that unpronounceable @Home service, Gillat I think. Hell, If we were giving away Cable modems, i might have taken one myself, to rid myself of the monthly rental fee from Cox....

I suppose so. 'Course I take no religion, so I care not either way. :)

  6. I am sorry, but that series thing sucked. on Dune Scores Huge Ratings · · Score: 1

I have read all of the Dune books, including the one Frank's son did to give more background on a lot of characters. This mini series is a blasphemy. The sets were cheap, a number of the characters used didn't have the right feel. It was horrible. The first movie is far and away the better, and should not have been redone unless it was a multi billion deal that would have stayed totaly true to the book and used better costumes/sets/actors/etc.

  8. This is what's up... on @Home Stops Allowing VPNs · · Score: 1

I am with Cox@home, and this is what I have been told both by the installers and the telephone techsup: @home does not "support" home networking, as in they will not help you with it in any way shape or form. They have no prob with you running a proxy to give other 'puters access, so long as you aren't running a server on it for MP3, warez, or anything else that is bandwidth intensive.

  9. Pinball shall never die, ergo "Let's get a Pinball on Is Pinball Dying? · · Score: 1

Pinball is still alive, and always will be. I myself have been in love with the steel ball since I was but 6, when could only watch that magical ball roll up and around and bounce madly back and forth. My personal old time favs are Pin-Bot, Ice Comet, and Black Knight. I also dig Machine Bride of Pin-Bot, and a Jack-Bot, a redone Pin-Bot machine. I any case, I hope to own many eventually, as I intend to have an arcade.

Now, on to business. Is there anyone here who would be interested in joining me to get enough money up to start a Pinball Parlor? I only make a little over minimum wage, but I would be quite interested in getting together with my fellow enthusiasts and pinball wizardss in order to stick it to all these non beleivers and lazy ass arade op's who don't appreciate a great thing. I would more than make up on my end to help get a decent sized place going, and a hell of a profit is ripe for the taking, untapped and pure. Any takers? I live in San Diego, and I think San Diego would be a great place to start. There are many people here, and many are enthusiasts like me. I know you guys are out there, so let's get it on!!!

  10. Old Hat. on NASA Snake-Bots · · Score: 1

I saw this stuff on the Discovery Channel a few months ago. It seems like a decent deal. They were showing off what they could do at the time, and link up was one of them. They are just as articulate as real snakes, if not even more so, so the possibilities abound.

  11. Re:biteing the hand that feeds.... on Shut Down Metallica, Not Napster · · Score: 1

I agree almost 100%. I own almost all of Metallica's albums, but before I owned some of the latest ones, I DLed the few songs i knew I liked to tide me over until I could purchase the full albums. By doing as they are, they are biting the hands that feed them. These 335,000 names are 335,000 customers less Metallica will have should they continue to pursue this. Maybe that doesn't matter when you consider the rest of the world, but then who didn't they manage to track out of their millions of fans? Lars is the main brains in the group when it comes to this. Lars, if you are reading this, STOP THE INSANITY AND STUPIDITY!!! You will only hurt youselves, and you should know this. I think we all know that MP3's hurt the musicians a lot less than is hyped.

  12. SCSI vs. IDE on Western Digital Pulling Out Of SCSI HD Business · · Score: 1

Well, to me it comes down to this: SCSI is rediculously expensive. Though I myself have an AHA-2940UW controller, I bought it used for $100, not the usuall $250+ I have seen everywhere. SCSI cards and HD's have overblown pricing. There is nothing I can think of that justifies the high cost of SCSI Hard disks. The controllers don't cost THAT much to make, and so shouldn't cost as much to the end user. HD's cost even less to make. A SCSI HD should cost the same as an IDE drive of the same size. If they would do this, then more people would buy SCSI. I will use SCSI in any way I can because of it's performance (CD burning, true multitasking, overall faster), but I think this thing with WD will continue as a trend with other companies until either SCSI gets hurt bad, or the price drops to a more reasonable level.

  13. Try this on for size... on Open Source Quake Causes Cheating? · · Score: 1

Since opening the source of a given program generally makes it free, why not just make it closed source freeware? Might be a little too late now, but leaving it closed and making it free would be have stopped this whole thing from happening. The only thing I personally would like to see, is a REAL OpenGL implementation, rather than this crap 3Dfx OpenGL implementation. It would be nice to see regular Quake the way I see Quake2. Thats my two cents.

  14. It's all so pathetic... on FCC May Force Telcos to Cut Rates for DSL Providers · · Score: 1

I was looking into getting DSL for the family as a christmas present, but after looking around at all of the rates and charges I realized that it really wouldn't be all that worth it yet. The examples they give you are of a 1.5Mbps upload/download stream, and you can definitely get that if you will just sign over your SOUL and/or bend over and grab your ANKLES for them. Granted, even 256K download, 128K upload is far better than dialup 56K(rap), but it is still lame. DSL shouldn't cost this much, nor cable for that matter. It is still very new, so I guess we should all expect to get raped for these services right now. Maybe in the future it will become cheaper, but I doubt that it would be by much.
