The article that we're all making our theorized statements based on clearly states:
McCallum said there would be "a whole bunch of new characters" and the series would be "much more dramatic and darker".
He added that it was unlikely any of the stars of the movies would be involved in the TV series.
It's not about Luke growing up, people. It's set in the *time period* when Luke grew up. I have not seen anything, anywhere, that alludes to this series becoming a Smallville ripoff, except on this very forum.
And seriously, the thing isn't even going to start filming for another 2 years. How can we make decisions about how horrible it's going to be when we don't know a single thing about it?
It seems like a silly timeframe for a star wars show. Jedis when theyre hiding, luke when he doesn't know anything about the force, dark side ruling without any serious opposition.. The way they described it makes it sound like there won't even be any light sabers.
Actually, I think it's a very interesting time period in Star Wars history, and probably the one that we know the least about. Sure, the Empire is ruling without opposition, but this is the time period during which the Rebel Alliance is forming, and it would be interesting to see that come together.
After reading all the comments here, I think everyone needs to just settle down a little bit. We don't know anything about the show. Just because they say it's set during the time when Luke is growing up doesn't mean that it will be *centered* on his boring farm-boy life in a Smallville-esque way. He may not even be in it.
I'm just saying, it would be nice if everyone could hold off on their decision that it's the worst show ever until we've actually SEEN it.
You might recognize it, yes. i.e. "Hey look! An Apple ][e! I built one of those!" But would you remember your *specific* Apple ][e?
Like what was said previously, they were common models of droid, there's no reason he should be expected to remember them. He probably sees protocol/astromech droids on a daily basis.
Right, that's what I'm saying. It seems like everyone complaining is saying that LiveJournal sucks because the random journals they look at aren't full of intellectual babble, when most people just use it to communicate with friends.
I guess I just don't understand the point of reading the journals of random strangers. You wouldn't expect that some random person you bump into at the grocery store would be that fascinating, so why would you expect the same of some random journal you click on?
(and for the record, the journal owner has to list YOU as a friend in order for you to read their private journals)
Well let's see. LiveJournal has (at this moment) 5,658,573 journals.
If you were to go out to your local shopping mall (a large public place also greatly inhabited by young people), what percentage of the people there do you think would meet your criteria for intelligent and substantial? And now apply that percentage to the number of LiveJournals and tell me that you've been to enough random journals to determine that everyone on there posts nothing but immature emotional wankery.
No, some thirteen year-old girl's journal is probably not going to be of interest to you (I'm assuming here) but there are plenty of interesting and intelligent journals out there. I also don't think that the point of LiveJournal is to post a bunch of "intelligent" ramblings for complete strangers to read, but to communicate and share things with friends.
If the people on your friends list have no bearing on your life... why do you have them on your friends list?
And if all your friends do is kiss up to you and spread gossip/lies, perhaps you should try to find a different group of peers, rather than blame LiveJournal.
In 1988, I got a Sega Master System for Christmas, along with 4 games, including the original Phantasy Star. I was 10. My parents and I spent my entire Christmas vacation parked in front of the living room TV, taking turns with the controller and making detailed maps of the caves in a notebook. We eventually beat the game, and then took turns replaying the final battle. I was the first to beat Lassic with all of my people still alive, which was probably the first time I ever did anything better than my parents. This stands out in my mind as not just my favorite gaming Christmas, but my favorite Christmas, period.
This is most definately a real problem. I am a co-founder of a relatively big IRC channel that has been around for over 3 years. Now I haven't missed very many of those days, and I can't ever remember when it was this horrendous... That's not to say that there haven't been other bad times, but this is getting unreasonable.
In a channel which used to have around 30 people in it at any given time, there are 9 right now, and that's the most I've seen all week. We can't keep our bots around with all the netsplits and crashing servers, so quite frequently our channel is left op-less.
The subject of moving the channel off of EFnet has been brought up, yet that doesn't seem to be the right solution. With it being on EFnet for so long, we've seen a lot of people come and go, and it's nice when they pop back in. If we moved it, they'd never find us.
I'm not proposing any solutions, because quite frankly, I don't have any, but one would think that the people who run some of the big EFnet servers would be able to come up with something.
The lives of some pathetically IRC-addicted geeks depend on it!

I saw her say this, perhaps you just missed it... I think it was about halfway through.

There's other female listeners out there, I'm sure. I'm actually a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman... does that count?
