Hurray for Political Pandering, it seems like this is an epidemic facing our states today... passing silly laws with little chance of succeeding in court, in order to increase your own political clout. Perhaps it's just that these lawmakers can't possibly believe that kids have rights under the constitution too.

If these states really wanted to protect kids, the best thing to do right now is to get into talks with the ESRB and work out a good solution to the problems they have with the rating system. If you don't think it's enforced enough, fine, but it they must realize that the rating system has to be enforced at the retail level, like the movie industry, if it has any chance of success, not at the government level.

Though it doesn't yet sound like they're admitting to actually doing evil, it does appear that they are thinking about pulling out of China rather than compromise their 'do no evil' motto.

While I do not find Google's censorship commendable, I also don't think of it as evil.

Google is providing service to a country who's customs and laws are different then our own, and although they may have to remove some of the more apparent blunders of communist China, they still provide easy access to other information. I think that it is good that the people of China are at least getting something from Google, even if it is the "Communist Safe" search.

This seems like an even bigger problem then the article mentions. Sure this information could be used for identify theft and the like, but perhaps even worse, this could be used to harass the families of active military personal. With some groups protesting at military funerals, I could see the same happening with protesting at active serviceman's houses with information like this.

This has been tried in several states and it always ends up like this.

I know alot of this is just feel good legislation, but when will they find these politicians start finding the next big thing that is "harming our children."

I can't wait until deforming terriain is common in video games. It would not only add an element of strategy for many first person shooters (blow out the supports for a building to take out someone on the floor above for instance), but it also gives the sense that you are actually affecting the world.
