"I can only say that I found your statement to be boorish, and incredibly and insensitively insulting to the people that were here previously--that you could manage to give the first amendment of the Constitution of the United States a bad name, if I felt that you had the slightest understanding of it, which I do not. You don't have the slightest understanding of the difference between government action and private action, and you have certainly destroyed any case you might otherwise have had with this senator" - U.S. Senator Slade Gorton speaking to Frank Zappa
Some of you are old enough to remember the 1985 Senate "Porn Rock" hearings. Those of you who are too young to remember the hearings should consider yourselves lucky. Basically they were about protecting the children from dirty lyrics.
The Washington wives in the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) included Al Gore's wife Tipper and Strom Thurmond's wife Nancy, among others. The PMRC was present at the hearings.
The L.A. Times quoted the PMRC's Nancy Baker as saying "we'd like an official panel, consisting of industry executives and community officials, who would set up general guidelines for industry standards."
Recording industry compliance to the standards was to be "voluntary."
The Xserve will be competitive before long. Excellent design, high quality construction and a price that's not unattractive to business. When it can run Linux, BSD, Windows, and OS X with equal ease, Apple will make a dent in the "mission-critical server" sector.
Linux will be "underground" like in a service tunnel beneath Disneyland. It's embedded in the hearts and minds of geeks everywhere. And it's in some PDAs and cellphones, too.
Consider starting a Slashdot Journal if you want a blog that will be noticed here. I hope that increases my score.
The Huffington Post blog has good story selection but comments are moderated. The moderators will not publish comments that they find unacceptable.
Oddly, each and every comment that's published there is flagged abusive. Hundreds and hundreds of 'em. I don't know why. A bug, maybe. So there's a stigma even if your comment gets past the moderators.
Slashdot could teach the Huffington Post a thing or two. This could be my highest score ever.

I'm a digital artist. I use gimp.app on a G4 Mac mini running OS X Tiger. The current download of gimp.app is universal, so it should work on an Intel Mac. Apple X11 is required. Install it from the Tiger installation DVD. Easily done.
I launch Apple X11 and then launch Gimp. This never fails.
There are tutorials and a discussion forum at the Gimp User Group. That said, I plan to buy the book.
Gimp's inscrutability is half the fun for me. I experiment with the controls. Things happen.
Gimp isn't the only art software in my toolchest. Corel Painter IX.5 is the best paint program that I use. There's also an old academic version of Photoshop 6 on the Classic layer.
It's silly to limit oneself as an artist to just one program.
A gaming platform for the Intel Mac already exists. It's called Windows XP. Dual boot capability is in the beta stage now but will be a standard component of OS X Leopard.
I have evidence [1024x768 pixels 114 kb PNG image file] that SuSE 9.1 PPC Potato works fine on a 266 MHz G3. You'll just have to take my word for it that I didn't fake this image.
Isn't giving old machines new life the whole point of Linux? Good luck with Windows 95.
Linux runs fast and smooth on my 1998 beige G3 desktop. I have fond memories of using the Gimp with the KDE panel.
What made the beige G3 obsolete is that it burns much more juice than my Mac mini. The Gimp's okay on Apple X11 Tiger.

Will there be Congressional hearings on blogging?
I'm crazy enough to think that this guy has a good chance of getting elected in 2008.
Here are my impressions of his website.
When will it be ported to the Nokia n800?

Photoshop Tennis is fun.

Brainy the mind control probe?
