I have to disagree. We actually have been using propaganda for years. I would further make the arguement that propaganda is not only important in any society; it's especially important in a democratic society. Assuming you're American or Italian or whatever, I doubt they didn't present the more unflattering points in your culture when you learned about your own history. Infact, I would go so far as to say - it IS the government's duty to indoctrinate you into your culture.
Maybe I'm totally wrong - but I imagine this has something to do with why these officer's were editing wikipedia articles.
I like OpenOffice, it gives me a 20 minute break every time I try to open it up. I click on the icon, and 20 minutes later the application is launched.
A couple months back I got a facebook account, and while it's more functional that the myspace page, the vast majority of the content I see there is silliness and spam.
Are you talking about Facebook as compared to MySpace? Because there are a few 18 year old supermodels who friended me just to chat about a week ago.
Is it just me or is Google slowly taking over the entire internet. I mean seriously - its getting to the point that anything you want to do you can do with Google. You can write documents, spreadsheets, calculate stuff. Soon they'll have their social networking site that will compete against facebook and myspace. They have video services, etc. Now they are going to go up against Wikipedia? Oh yeah, and I'm told they have searching capability as well.
In all honesty, you have to give them credit for not resting on their success which seems to be the case all to often. Not to mention, they are doing most things better then their predecessors, I just think its interesting.
Utter horseshit. under Linux, you can't even get many types of app - for example, there are no Photoshop-class image editing apps Gimp?
If a new user chose a Mac or Linux app at random, it's likely that the Mac app is of better quality and usability. That's an interesting assertion, is that your point of view or is it an actual survey that was performed?
As a final point, I actually find installation and usage of applications to be very intuitive and easy under Ubuntu. Add/Remove software is built directly into the interface, and it contains any type of software I've ever really wanted or needed to use. There's also the availability of Wine.
The fact of the matter is - Linux has made great strides in the desktop arena. One only needs to look at the current landscape, various manufacteurers are beginning to include Linux distributions as an alternative to Windows. Hell, even Walmart sells a cheap Linux machine now. Just from your final statement, it seems pretty inherent that you really haven't tried using Ubuntu.
This is by far the greatest title I've ever read on Slashdot. I'm not even going to read the article because I'm sure it's not going to live up to the title.
The game console they carted into my room while I was in the hospital was a stinkin' NES - now, come on. How rinky-dink and Soviet can you get? I wanted an N64, damnit! Well if you didn't break your arm, I'm sure they would've brought in a wii.
The easy solution rather then removing IE - why not just include two browsers on your operating system? I seriously think most users would like for the 'e' on their desktop regardless.
I think a pretty interesting question would be: If MS was forced into removing their browser for some reason - what do you think they would bundle with their OS?
The reason good programmers are so hard to come by is because colleges aren't really putting out good programmers. In the past, colleges were much more concerned with teaching the elements of one particular language, and then allowing you to transition between different languages. Nowadays, schools don't want to teach one particular language for fear of their students being labeled and losing opportunities because they went to a "Java" or a "C++" school. When I went to school (which I only graduated a few months ago), the professors refused to go in depth about any particular language so, in essence, we learned overall generalization about programming, data structures, algorithms, etc., but we never really learned any one language thoroughly. Many of my friends from other schools experienced the exact same thing.
I recall reading a story recently regarding this issue. From a girl's facebook account, researchers had enough information to steal her identity in 15 minutes.
On a side note:
I am not able to delete my facebook account. To fully delete it, I have to remove everything from my wall and every friend, I've ever had. Don't really want to do that. I can "disable" it. Personally, i would just like to be removed from their database. No seriously - i sent them the SQL statement that would probably take care of it.
I fully detest facebook.
I always thought it had something to do with picking up chicks with your mad computer skills.
But honestly, I never understood the attraction to vim or vi until reading this forum today. And I guess, it makes a lot of sense, however growing up in the windows environment, I like pico... A LOT.
Under this definition of unconstitionality, the government wouldn't be able to place any restrictions on anyone. Here's a few points to think about:
A.) Where is it written in the constitution where pornography couldn't be regulated? (I can already hear the keystrokes of "1st Amendment", but I highly doubt any one of us consider this "speech".)
B.) Secondly, this may make it easier to access your porn sites. It will certaintly be easier to block children's access to these sites.
My only point is, how is this any different from a rating system. Is making something rated R unconstitutional?
Lastly, I want to register www.google.xxx, so I hope this passes.
Not to be a total ass, but your so called "freedom" was even restricted by the founding fathers of our country. It doesn't take anyone much time to research the fact that even John Adams, the second president of the United States, had restricted freedom, and for what? basically he made a law that stopped people from publically critisizing him and other officials (Read up on Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798). I believe it can even be argued that our country has made a tradition of restricting personal freedoms, especially but not always limited to times of crises. I really don't see any freedom restricted in your above comments?
Regardless, I believe the United States is one of the freest countries in the world.
P.S.: The word you were looking for above was "acceptable" not "exceptable", also the word "tyranny" is used incorrectly. The word tyranny refers to one person as an absolute ruler of a country. As in, "King George was a tyrannical ruler." That simply isn't the case if you're referring to elected officials in gov't.
IPv6 HA! My toaster is running IPv8.

This is entirely correct. iTunes is NOT cross platform. Besides, the DRM on iTunes is pretty weak (Not that I'm making a case FOR DRM).
