Ironically, one of the apps I am trying to support is Word for DOS, designed to run interchangeably on OS/2 and DOS. This app was developed for OS/2 but isn't 32-bit in the sense you imagine it would be.
Appears to be extremely tweakable (i.e. complicated). Requires boot images, versus just running the application. Might work. Not sure I have the fortitude to give is a full-fledged try.
And we would be staying far longer on 32bit (XP) if Microsoft weren't arbitrarily making it impossible, except for the specific OSes mention above. An annoying money grab.
Thanks for the link. This will work, apparently, IFF (1) the computer is running Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise, (2) the computer has downloaded and installed XP mode, and (3) the computer has downloaded and installed Windows Virtual PC.

My three Windows 7 systems are all running Windows 7 Home so I can't verify this. Upgrading them from Home Premium to Professional is $89 at Amazon. So much for free.
Also, any idea how much RAM would be needed, on top of that needed for Windows 7?
Good to know. I am very open to Linux at this point, having grown tired of Microsoft trying to put me and my preferred apps out to pasture. I can't imagine what people with super expensive equipment couple to XP systems that are ready to fall over dead are planning to do when (not if) that happens.
Why is anything that happens after you are dead important to you? You're not going to be there to see it, or to experience it, or to suffer from the consequences.

I taken it you're not a big believer in these? Namaste.
Most of what you list is incremental. SSD over HD, really? Then why not mention SATA over ATA? .
And how is a flat panel display a "huge" technological leap? Especially with LCD latency issues, LCD looks more like a downgrade, albeit a cheaper than CRT one.
"Ability to burn optical media" is as revolutionary as "buggy whip manufacture". I burn, on average, a disk or two per YEAR. At least you could have gone for USB thumb drives.
"High speed internet" is so "huge" a leap, it is not even needed for the low tech, text-based site we are discussing it on.

There was a recent Wired mag. article about the guy at Facebook who does this. This way if you release dog food, only 1% of your customers have to go to the vet.
This lists Ford F-150 as number one, as of August 1, 2012.

The point, that you are ignoring, is that there are PLENTY of people who want to buy trucks, contrary to your original "most people don't drive vehicles in the "pickup truck" or "van" form factor" statement.
While many may not understand the difference between a cigar and a cigarette, there are a number of them and they are substantial. While size is the first thing many people think of, that is only part of the explanation. No matter what your personal view is of cigars and cigarettes, it is important to remember the health consequences of smoking can be very severe with both products.
Officially, a cigar is defined as a tobacco product that is wrapped in a leaf tobacco or other product containing tobacco. A cigarette is a product that that is wrapped in paper, or at least a material that does not contain any tobacco in the wrapping. While this may seem like a small difference, it does indicate that size is not nearly as important as substance when it comes to the difference between the two.
While the wrapping may not make a great difference in the amount of tobacco in a cigar, most do have a substantial amount of tobacco. That is a big difference between a cigar and a cigarette. Many cigars have as much tobacco, or nearly as much, as an entire pack of cigarettes. Thus, the addictive properties and negative health effects are amplified with cigars in most cases.
Another difference is the way the two products are made. The tobacco in cigars is aged for approximately a year and then fermented through a process that takes another several months. This helps give the cigar a unique smell and flavor, especially when compared to cigarettes.
Also, most cigars do not have filters, another difference between a cigar and a cigarette. This makes cigars especially dangerous, simply because there are fewer safeguards filtering some of the harmful chemicals from entering the body. While filters by no means make smoking safe, they do help somewhat.
Some smaller cigars, referred to as cigarillos, do have filters. These smaller cigars are not as common as the larger models. Therefore, the vast majority of cigars smoked come without any form of filter.
As with cigarettes, the dangers of secondhand smoke with a cigar are just as prevalent. While many may find the smoke a little more pleasing to the senses than cigarette smoke, it can be just as dangerous. Dangers of second-hand smoke include spurring an asthma attack and even lung cancer, with long-term exposure.
Personally I think they are "ridiculous laws" that stop someone from trying to off themselves on their own time. I think if you are single you should be allowed to not wear a seatbelt, for example. But laws against poisoning other people's air are good laws in my book.
So, 6.6 amps times 24 hours = 158.4 amp hours, times 120 volts = 19,000 watts. In Chicago, electricity costs 14.8 cents/kwhour. Total cost $2.81 for electricity.
For a 30mpg car, trip uses 2/3 of a gallon. Say gas costs $4/gal. Total spent: $2.67.
OOPS.
Maybe next time you could give us a LoC metric so we could more easily figure out what your point is.
"Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs is exclusively available to Microsoft Software Assurance customers, as it is designed to be an inexpensive upgrade option for corporations that have a number of Windows 9x computers, but lack the hardware necessary to support the latest Windows. It is not available through retail or OEM channels."

A better perspective on LHC non-findings and super symmetry: "...in most of the simplest variants of supersymmetry they should have shown up by now...But there are big caveats to discuss at this point...several assumptions go into the standard searches for superpartner particles..." etc.

So how would you explain the use of "space-saver" spares? They are chosen for their aesthetics?
Something that would be new is using Li instead of Pb in the original 12V car battery. What is the hold up on that?

From "What Is the Difference between a Cigar and a Cigarette?"
[bold emphasis added]

Just go out with a smoker and take a break while they smoke. I did that for years. Good times.

What are you talking about? Who has one always-active CRT, let alone four?
They use only 25% of the consumption of a 4-TON AC unit
A 4 ton A/C unit could cool a 3,300 sq. ft. house What percentage of the population has such a "typical" mega mansion?
the same power monthly as a single 8000 BTU window air conditioner
OK, about 6.6 amps
So, 6.6 amps times 24 hours = 158.4 amp hours, times 120 volts = 19,000 watts. In Chicago, electricity costs 14.8 cents/kwhour. Total cost $2.81 for electricity.
