  1. Scary on Training Workshop on Bionanotechnology · · Score: 1

I am very curious as to the possibilities of nano-technology being used within living organisms such as ourselves. Likewise, I am very concerned.

Aiding the healing of ourselves does and has lead to overpopulating this Earth. You think we are really innovative, don't you? Well we are destroying rainforrests and burning more fuel at an alarming rate each day.

If I die of some common disease, leave me be. I might change my mind, but I am sure that I don't want to contribute to more a problem.

I'm probably just typing anything on my mind but at least I am thinking!

I advise everybody to think of the consequenses, as well!

  3. Potential for Hazard on Exoskeletons for Human Performance Augmentation · · Score: 1

We like to think of all of the possibly good uses that would help society to be more productive, but neglect to realize the impact of these tools falling into the hands of those who wish to use it for other than its intended purpose.

Ok, so this might not be a great analogy, but look at Netpliance. They created a product and then people found out they could take advantage of the product's capabilities by modifying it.

The I-openers may be a "toy" but such exonic skeletons certainly are not. Let's imagine an inventor of such a tool envisions studying volcanos or building skyscrapers -- all by remote control.. If the inventor believes he is the only one who would be able to control the droid, he is wrong. If one person can do it, ANYONE can do it. Think of the implications of military applications, from either foreign or domestic governments. If the "good guy" has these tools, the "bad guy" would want it and will get it. If the "bad guy" has it, then the "good guy" should seek the destruction of these tools and manufacturing plants.

In conclusion: economically and politically driven people are not necessarilly intelligent, as their mind is their innovation

END OF MESSAGE, THAT IS ALL!

  6. Linux promotes diversity. on The GNOME-Microsoft Connection · · Score: 2

Linux promotes diversity due to its open-sourcedness. There is not and ought not to be any "standard desktop" system but, rather, a standard desktop protocol whereby any desktop system my interoperate with another. Also, to anybody who should complain about GNOME offering tools too similar to Microsoft's: what is the problem with copying features? Linux copied many of the features of UNIX, CORRECT?. All creative and new (or old) ideas are based on even older ones. Is "Computer" another word for super-calculator? of course not -- a computer can do more. I encourage such projects to do more not only by copying but adding their own unique features -- of which others may copy from. If we did not copy there would be many non-standard protocols. I certainly subscribe to the idea that if something works -- leave it; if something doesn't work -- fix it up yourself: something open source licenses promote.

If the UN were to rule a verdict, the consequence for not honoring the verdict could likely be removal of membership from the UN. But this would make the UN suffer. So, we must be sure both parties actually care about being involved with the UN, which i should hope they are.

In my opinion, the UN is a very powerful organization and i can see no reason the US or France should not wish to say a member of it. The benefits outweigh the risks..
