Agree, the layout looks nice, but the problem is with their search result. For example, I'm a Duke student, and I want to find the login page for my Duke webmail. I searched "duke email" and "duke mail" in Cuil, cannot find what I want in their first page. Similarly, for MS live search, "duke mail" shows the correct result in the first page, but "duke email" failed too. (Maybe the real address is mail.duke.edu confuses the word "email"). However, a google search for both queries gives have the correct link in their first result.
UI is very important, but after you get the contents right.
Agree, I don't think this is any news, I wonder why it is on slashdot.
Also, this security patch is already out yesterday (April 19th), not today. And as before, it requires reboot, and it took somewhat longer to restart the computer. But THAT'S IT! Nothing news worthy...
Well, I don't think apple don't include wi-fi in the iPod is because of the third party gadgets. In fact, if they found third party gadget is making money, they try to make them too! such as apple's own ipod cases, well, ipod hifi, if you count it as an ipod accessory.
The main reason for no include wi-fi is because it trains the battery! Currently, the playback of a video iPod for movies is about 3.5 hours (if I remember correctly), if they include wifi, which use batteries for search wireless network, I doubt how long it can last. Even worse, if you want to download a movie from iTunes using iPod through wireless network, I doubt you'll have enough battery for downloading a full-length movie and play it without charging, well, I guess that's the limit of current iPod battery.
Conclusion, unless they found new ways to save energy, no wireless.
Well, if it is kind of programing bug, then the reasoning is fine. However, google is simply using sougou's dictionary. In fact, sougou's dictionary contains several developers' names which can be produced as the 1st choice if input their name, such as Tong Zi Jian, Zhao Li Yang, Lv Jie Yong, and Ru Li Yun. It is impossible for google to use sougou's developers' names in google's dictionary except they are simply copying the whole dictionary. Notice that although those names were in google's Pinyin input 1.0.15.0. they are removed in the newer version 1.0.16.0.
Well, I just checked spotlight preference, and although it will index the bookmarks, they do not index the web history, but google desktop will index the web history, and they are already doing a good job for saving your search histories if you have a google account.
To be honest, I would prefer if google works with apple to integrate those two product into one, say spotlight in 10.5
If you use Gmail, you can access them using POP by mail, and you can set the preference for spotlight, such that indexes the mail messeges also (not only gmail, but you other mail accounts simultaneously!)

Because people want to keep their preferences anywhere anytime. Not just on one computer, but on all their computers, and their iphones etc.
For 2), it does work in Safari.
Good point. I wish Google offers a free calendar syncing app between iCal and google calendar. The current solutions are so expensive.
