Microsoft bundles IE as default but doesn't disable Firefox or Opera instance on your box. Compared to Microsoft, what Apple did was just plain evil - one hundred times worse than Microsoft.
It's not the good ol' days you're talking about. It's just your expectation today are way different. There were little competition in the past, and the gaming industry is like an uncultivated land in which resources were still plenty. How about putting it this way: any thing creative coming from you were easier to be accepted than today?

Wrong! Keep in mind the article is talking about PC sales - not including Laptop sales. All the examples you used includes everything in addition to PC sales.
